guy, i was answering the question above, and i will be at the game monday and will support coach like i always do, it would be nice if there were some iona fans at the game at monmouth and might actually cheer. it was good to see that when they retired rich's number at half time people were able to stand and cheer, idn't think anyone could clap on our side. even during the manhattan game when we went on a run all our great supporters who complain about the student section still couldn't bring themselves to stand and cheer, about 20 people did, i wish someone can tell me why since everyone complains about disappointing crowds and noise we can't help on our side

Because most of us are either very old, or just feel like it.

Do you know what section the Iona bench is in front of?

Also sat...rather stood...in the student section for the whole game vs Manhattan...it was an electric atmosphere and being surrounded by young people was invigorating...but I'm only 67.

sigael. I grew up down the road a bit from from Wagner on E. Cheshire Place. I miss the place from time to time. The last time I saw my old home was in 2005. I miss Joe and Pat's pizza, too.
Go Gaels!!!

My old address was 47 E. Cheshire Place. It's the street along Victory Blvd that has the chain across it. The community bought the street in the 60s because we almost had a couple of kids killed by folks would use the street (that is a big hill) to short cut from Victory to Clove Road. When I was last there I asked the current owner if I could sprinkle some of my Dad's ashes on the front lawn that I had to mow during the summers. They let me.
I spent a ton of time (and money) at J&P's during my years at Farrell (65-69). I would always stop in and say hello to Joe when I was visiting. The last time I was on the Island I stopped by for a couple of slices and a pepper and egg hero. Joe was still there and looked like he still had the same hair piece as he had in the 60s. My Dad hated that I spent so much time there. He was sure they were "connected" and he was in a law partnership with John Marchi (our State Senator) and Ed Aaman (our Assemblyman). The Island had changed so much. It was a great place to grow up on though.
Go Gaels!!!

I believed they were for elderly...If it wasn't for this stupid stroke, I'd still be playing competitive golf and having a few brews with the young guys...... Make the days go slow, because the years go fast...

Live across the street from the Marchi's. State Senator Marchi passed away a few years ago after serving 50 consecutive years in the State Senate. Joe is still wearing the same hair piece which looks like a dead squirrel on top of his head. My email is BBonz33@gmail.com. Send me yours and I'll send you some pix next week.

The Marchis were nice people. I remember working on Nando's campaign when he ran for Borough President. I saw that they named a ferry after John. He deserved it. I worked for him when he beat Lindsey in the Republican primary for Mayor in 1969. I always thought that instead of making that run he should have run in the primary against Javits for U.S. Senator.
Thanks, sigael. I'll get an email to you.
Go Gaels!!!

cluess will always be a winner at Iona, but he still needs a signature win, i still remember not being able to get out of my seat for half an hour after the BYU game, and without the depth of having size we aren't exactly in great shape with our roster the rest of the year- we have 1 kid left over 6-6 for the rest of the year if your goal is to win the maac he is the perfect coach, if your goal is to be able to at least hang with the big boys in a game during the season or in the dance, he still needs to tweak some things but all in all we are in good shape having him and grasso, lets not forget the recruiting grasso has done Dude, Making the tournament is great but having "racing luck" with who your opponent is would be the most important thing as far as an upset opportunity. I was sitting in a bar with my son last year on Selection Sunday when Harvard was announced to play New Mexico. I told my son "that should have been our game". When Ohio State was announced as our opponent, I knew we were in deep yogurt as that was a very big physical team, which did not match up well for us. Who you play is very important. Remember, TC knows this team and is having (in my opinion) his best coaching season at Iona. We have to trust that the staff will plan accordingly. The glass if half full!

Java I agree. injuries to Robinson, Hines, Scott and sledge. IW missing 6 games. Amayo not getting his waiver and TC and staff has this team 12-8 (9-2). The team is playing as hard as I have seen them play. Great job by TC and staff and a realistic shot to win reg season (NIT bid) and possibly go dancing again !!
