A point of contention among comments on the various threads, chat room, etc is that we seem to be split on the need to have a "deep bench" as we approach the final month long stretch of the season.
We have had a number of injuries this season and now it looks like Hines and Robinson are both out. Ellis is rarely used and I don't believe Britton Williams is still with the team.
I'm concerned if we are only 7 or 8 deep, we may run out of gas by March.
Interested in hearing your thoughts.

One positive is Cluess seems more comfortable with a shorter rotation.

Depth is overrated.

While in the perfect world it would be nice to have great depth but who are you going to sub for? All I know is Iona's top 7 is better than any top 7 in the league, so just keep running them out there

Agree with joebird. Coach wouldn't have subbed much last night anyway. I just hope we don't have a unexpected tough game (OT?) early in the MAAC tourney.

I don't think we need a lot of depth, BUT it is quite a feat that we have been able to stay out of foul trouble given the better defense that is being played. Also, when guys get tired, there is the chance for tricky tack fouls. We are also one starter injury away from trouble. Stay healthy and stay focused.

Every top echelon team is one starter injury away from trouble.
Iona is better conditioned than most teams. Depth not an issue.

We have been lucky so far in that we have not had the game where a "hard ass" ref calls everything so tight that we have three or four of our top eight players with 3/4 fouls and forced to log too many bench minutes. As far as the injuries go, yes we have been fortunate that most of our top players have remained healthy. I'm hopeful Tre Bowman's injury is minor and he will be back for the weekend. We need his experience, outside shot and effort to succeed in the conference.

So... The ladies team has even less depth than the mens team and yet the combined league record for our teams is 22-2. I'll take that kind of depth any day. Most NBA teams (at least in the playoffs) Play 6-7 guys a majority of the minutes. In college it's 7-8. That doesn't mean depth is a bad thing. It helps to have effective role players and some teams have been very successful playing 9 or 10 guys. Also helps to have good players in practice. I am hoping that we get some of these guys back, particularly Tre, but am confident this team can succeed as is.

I do disagree with guy on one point. Fatigue IS an issue. 19-20 year olds, even well conditioned ones, do get tired. Even playing only twice a week. Particularly at the pace the Gaels play at. Granted, both teams are playing the same game, but if they are rotating 9-10 guys and you are at 6-7, your team will get tired. This is why you will see us slow it down from time to time. Did a great job last night of controlling the tempo. Didn't completely slow it down, but they picked their spots. Coaches know what they are doing.

trust me --iona has depth....we have guys coming off the bench that are big east starters (laury and bowman)....you wanna see a team with absolutely no depth--providence literally has a 6-man rotation ....Bryce cotton "averages" 40 mins a game!
