Would love to see Ellis get meaningful time in the rotation. He has a lot of ability.

I do disagree with guy on one point. Be careful starting your car later today.

7-8 guys who have talent and can play is an perfect # for me, you can't defend against injuries, I think Iona will be fine!

I think we are fine, hopefully we don't play a team with a lot of depth in the MAAC finals though, that are more rested than us during the season 7 is fine. In the ruland days all his titles were when we were down to 8 or 9 guys left with only 6 or 7 actually playing

Thought we would re-visit this thread as there was a discussion in another thread regarding # in the rotation.
Since the season has played out, I guess we can all speculate regarding 6 thru 10 in a rotation. Injuries happen and fatigue obviously sets in after 5 months of intense action.
I feel 9 is the proper amount of players playing significant playing time. 5 starters, a back up point guard, back up center and 2 interchangeable players playing the 2/3/4 spot.

i'm good with, 3 players 6-7 and up rotating, 5 smaller players with at least one being a legit point guard for end of game situations. we were probably the only top 20 scoring team without a true pg

As we found out playing with a really short bench hurts, when you have to play three games in three days. In the NIT or NCAA, for that matter, we could get away with it. I think the ideal situation would be eight players. A sub guard, forward, center.

The thing about the MAAC tournament though is that every team is in the same boat, so theoretically you aren't at a disadvantage, i.e. you're not playing a fresh team when you are tired. This is what happened when we played St. Peters and Monmouth. We were tired and they weren't. We won those games at home, important games, but this is where I was calling for extending the bench. In hindsight it looked like Manhattan's deeper bench was a help in their win on Monday night. But when you are playing difficult comepetition in the tournament, I can understand a coach's reluctance to go to guys on the bench he doesn't believe can cut it.

ctbill, not everyone is int he same boat, if you are a deeper team your players won't be as tired. also in the quarters we were up by 20, we don't trust one extra player in the rotation? then they shouldn't be on the team.

Well theoretically they are when you are making your decision. On Sat Cluess doesn't know who he's playing on Monday and he needs to secure that win just to get to Mionday. It's easy to say in hind sight that he should've rested guys up 20 in the second half. But if we blow a lead late on Sat. we do 't even get to Monday night.

How many mid majors can recruit 9 or 10 studs that play a lot of minutes? And freshmen normally need time to mature. Transfers don't always fit in immediately. Hines may have been a 12 minute guy late in the season. Don't know the deal with Sledge and Gomez. We are not an elite major yet, but we are getting closer. Robinson may get there as well. We were very fortunate that our starters missed zero (I believe) games because of physical injury.
