Good to see the school ponying up the cash that he deserves. Great to finally see an administration walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

I don't know how long we will keep him -- hopefully for a good long time. TC is a great asset to the College.
Go Gaels!!!

Smart move and perfect timing.
1. I hope he got a hefty raise because he's earned every penny of it.
2. I hope the rest of the coaching staff, particularly Grasso, received their fair share.
3. I hope the school protected its investment by putting a hefty (arena sized) buy-out clause in the contract to any would-be poachers.

All small school programs lose their coaches when they have success so its not an insult. If we are lucky enough to go to the dance and win a game, it still might be hard to keep him. Why do we think that Cluess cares less about Iona and the young men he mentors there than does any of us? Does it mean he will never leave? We all left, didn't we?

Hopefully, he adds COY to the resume! Now, can we end the mindless speculation in 25% of the threads about his future??? So much for ending the mindless speculation.

i think its a good problem that people speculate about him leaving, it means we are having a successful run with a coach people want, if he leaves it probably means we made the ncaa tourn and won a game, so he would be rewarded somewhere with a big contract, and we would be rewarded with a great recruiting class if we hired the right coach, but we should end this talk until the middle of march and enjoy the next few weeks

iona1970, not sure I get this part. Recruiting is traditionally pretty lean the first year of coaching turnover.
Maintaining the players already on board is normally the first challenge of any new coach.

While I'm happy that TC got an extension, but since it is for only one year, I'm not sure of the reason. Media reports only call it an extension, not a restructured contract where he could/would get a raise in pay for the coming year. Now it's possible that the last year of the contract (the extra year) could include a big bonus if stays for the entire length of the contract. And at the same time the "buyout" might have been increased. Anyone have an idea?

Well the good news is that TC is under contract for a good long time and was recognized for a fabulous coaching job he did this year. He'll be here as long as he wants to and he says he wants to be here. So I guess I'm in the camp with Super. What's prompting all the speculation that he might leave at some point? The admin. publicly announced a plan to upgrade the facilities. If we all want TC to stay and the program to grow we need to support the plan. Can't just rely on a couple of well heeled alums to bail us out all the time. We need to put some skin in the game. Personally it sounds to me based on what TC himself has said that he's pretty content here at Iona. Maybe we can't believe our good fortune. Meanwhile we have the MAAC tourney starting tomorrow. Let's go!!!

Let's go!!! Bill--you are on target, TC needed the college to show its commitment to the program. The facility is a big issue for him--not just the arena. (Go visit the "upgraded" locker rooms.) So, the first 2 steps have been taken: 1.getting his new contract last year and the current extension; 2. announced plans for a new facility. Two more things have to happen-- I believe-- the college needs to provide some additional $$ for the program, and the operating budget for the program should not require a contribution from Goal Club fund-raising. (Both of those may be the same thing!)
