While I'm happy that TC got an extension, but since it is for only one year, I'm not sure of the reason. Media reports only call it an extension, not a restructured contract where he could/would get a raise in pay for the coming year. Now it's possible that the last year of the contract (the extra year) could include a big bonus if stays for the entire length of the contract. And at the same time the "buyout" might have been increased. Anyone have an idea? Not sure if the extension would ever be publicized as a "restructured contract". Pretty certain that the extension included a hefty pay raise for TC, which was well deserved. We are fortunate to have a class act for a head coach. Besides being a great basketball mind, TC is extremely mature and we don't have to worry about him going south and taking the foot off the pedal after he lands a nice contract, like so many other programs have to when they do the same with younger coaches.

Iona05, so you think that the contract extension, really meant a new/restructured contract? Now, if true, then that would make sense. The press release didn't. Either way, I'm glad for Tim and his family.

The buzz and the timing on this is great. I walked into the office this morning to two comments of "Strong move by Iona". Believe me, people in St. Louis do not talk about Iona around the water cooler. If nothing else, the announcement and its timing is brilliant.

I like the timing. Showing a commitment to a coach and locking him down helps on the recruiting trail.

I really think the timing was deliberate to avoid distraction during regular season and prior to MAAC Tournament. No worries for coaches, players and recruits. Everybody can focus on task at hand, winning the MAAC Tournament. Congratulations to Coach Cluess. Well deserved for all he has done for program.

Hmm.... A conspiracy theorist might question the timing on this.

Cluess named coach of the year. Also thought the Lavin extension timing was a bit interesting. Also gave him 1 year more than Cluess. Smells fishy.

Right before KU entered and won the NCAA tourney in 08', the president of KU did the same thing with Bill Self. Isn't Nyre an alumnus of KU? Maybe he is looking for the same magic. In any case it is definitely a smart move. Give him some extra support and a shot in the arm. It definitely has an effect on the players also. A great move all around.

If they win the MAAC tourney again then Nyre will look like a genius.
