Those of us who attended "Meet the Gaels" were very impressed with the play of Grant Ellis who hit about 10+ threes on the way to 30+ points. And I, for one, was expecting to see him play much more this season. Some of the comments at MTG was that he might be our second best long range shooter. And while I'm not sure that assessment was correct, it did make me think of Sean Armand, when he was a freshman. He was a spot up shooter, who was constantly pulled from games because of his defense and inexperience. But over the last four years Sean expanded his game and became one of Iona's all-time greats. But he was only able to do that, because he got the opportunity to play. So far Grant hasn't got that opportunity. Will he ever get it? Should he, or should we just move on?

Sean put in a lot of hard work in order to improve his game. I don't know if Grant is doing the same thing. If he is, he can accomplish much.

No... Ellis needs to stay and put in the work to earn more minutes. He has the size that Cluess likes and the skills to fit our system. He also played for two winning programs (hudson Catholic & St. Benedict's) so he knows how to win and what it takes to do so. This is a young man who tore up the Hoop Group Elite Basketball Camp and was considered by many to be the best all around player and that camp included many good players including Shane Richards, so that is saying something.
I hope he stays and puts in the effort he needs to become a great player.

Too early to write this kid off. Cluess has proven to be a very fair coach who will reward those who work the hardest in the gym and during the offseason. The next six months will be pivotal for Ellis, and if he puts the work in to improve his game, I think he'll be in the rotation come November. He's got a ton of talent as many on the board have pointed out.
