Yes, I know I'm jumping the gun but just want to put this idea out there. If recruiting finishes up on a good/very good/great note, both the Men's and Women's teams should be very deep next season. So, I'm suggesting that they change the format of Maroon Madness, which is usually described as a waste of fans' time, if you're looking to see some BB being played. Have two 20 minute "games" between Maroon and Gold. Women (ladies first) would scrimmage, followed by the Men's team. And if this isn't acceptable then have a full 40 minute scrimmage on the schedule, especially if we aren't playing an exhibition game.

Not a bad idea at all. A few MAAC schools do (color)-and-white games each year. Not sure why we don't.

greg, last tr we did a layup line, students did contests and then 1 player from each team took a couple of shots and it was over, paint drying would be a good change, wait i forgot the girls team danced

greg, completely disagree, although I recognize that you're entitled to your opinion. Over the years, I've always enjoyed MTG. And last year I got to see Kelvin Amayo show how good he was, and Grant Ellis show how good he could be. Fortunately, I've been able to get over to New Ro during the summer and watch some pick up games, but most of you can't do that. This (M vs. G) would be an opportunity for many of us to see what the team might look like next season. There is also the possibility that we'll be going on a Canadian trip over the Labor Day weekend, and if that comes to pass, there is a ten day (??) practice session allowed.
Guy, in the past Iona coaches (multiple) told me that we didn't have enough players to scrimmage. Seeing other teams do it, I never understood that answer.

Not so much disagreeing as a matter of taste. I'm not saying that they shouldn't have them, or that you shouldn't go. Just not my taste. Of course, I've never been to a MTG, just a few for other schools.

A gala night.....The introduction of both the men and women team with short comments by both coaches...Hire our band to pep up the crowd.....
Call up Pat Kennedy at Pace...Ask him to take the short trip down to receive a tribute for his years at Iona, followed by a exhibition game between Iona-Pace....
Coffee and donuts at a extended half in the corridor... Brief mingle with players after game........
That is what I call ''Meet the Gails''

1970, I know. Originally posted about Maroon Madness, but then greg posted that he didn't enjoy scrimmages. So I referred to MTG which is a scrimmage of a sort, and one that many of us have attended. Also, for Maroon Madness, there was talk about having our own student pep band, next year, and I have my fingers crossed. I think that greg is talking about going to other schools' scrimmages, and I don't think that I'd enjoy them either, but our own is different. That way you get to see more of our players perform.

correct, bill, that's why keep the scrimmage at meet the gaels, i know coaches don't like dunk contests, but maybe 3 pt contests since both teams take so many in games.
