Don't know much about McGaughy. Does anyone have some information? I see his height reported from 6'9" to 6'11'.

The staff always seems to like to keep one opening, for mid-year transfers. And unless we hear about Kelvin, we don't know whether we have one or two open spots. At least, that's how I see it.

If 5 star recruit Omari Spellman decides to join his teammates, Mitchell and Crawford, at Iona next year, I would not reject his LOI if he sent it. You never know... anything is possible. no way that's possible...blue chip not going to de-commit from nova to play in a high school gym in a one-bid conference Hold on bubba. I got an email yesterday inviting me to a special event on Nov. 20th before the Delaware game "Recognizing A Historic Commitment to Iona College." Getting ready to reserve my stool in the new after game alumni reception lounge.

An athletic big who can run the court. A little thin and could put on some more muscle. He blocks shots, alters opponents shooting with his length and cleans up around the rim.... the kid can drop the three ball consistently. He has a unbelievable handle for a big. As a freshman at Southwestern Tennessee he averaged 7.5 ppg and only 2.5 rpg... but he only played 14 minutes a game and was playing various positions (SG/SF) most of the time. He will be playing at Midland College this season. Had an offer from Memphis and was expected to receive a bunch of high end Div 1 offers this season. He is built for Cluess offense.

He sounds like a very good signing. Next year's class looks very strong, and is coming together very early by our standards.

Some nice Twitter praise for Svandrlik:
Anthony Collins @nextupantc "IHCC PF + Iona commit Jan Svandrlik can consistently get by slower PFs + get to the basket to either finish or create layups for fellow bigs"
Anthony Collins @nextupantc "Even though I think every 3 pointer IHCC PF + Iona commit Jan Svandrlik takes is going to go in, he needs to mix in attacking basket more."

EP, I see it as mixed reviews. Also, I've only thought of Jan as a SF, the tweets refer to him as a PF. IONA86, what is your take?

Svandrilk started at SF. He was able to drive to the basket and pass off to other players. Very smart player who didn't force anything, and is a very good shooter. I know it was only one game, but I was impressed, and I think he will contribute right away and help replace some of the perimeter shooting Iona loses with the graduations of AJ and IW. Love the recruiting class the staff has put together so far

This is a question for 86. I might just be stating the obvious, but it seems to me that more and more schools are getting their bigs from Africa. Even in the MAAC, a lot of the teams have a kid from Africa on their roster. The one that caught my eye, and I'm talking location, rather than talent, because I have no idea how good he is. But FF has a guy from Kinshassa (Sp?) from the Congo. And I believe that country is formerly Zaire, and before that the Belgian Congo. Growing up with the Sunday comics, Tarzan lived in the Belgian Congo, deep in the heart of Africa. Where and how do Prep Schools and colleges find these guys? Am I off base?

This is Kinshasa, the capital of DR Congo: This is Lagos, Nigeria. IT has a population of 13,400,000 in the metro area. This is Dakar in Senegal: While they do not have facilities like we have in the US, they do have various academies that attract the best players. Many of those sports clubs and academies are now placing kids with "guardians" who enroll these kids in US Preps and high schools. As hoops develops in other parts of Africa (Uganda etc...) and more African players play in the NBA, you will see even more of these kids coming to the US. So our staff would not have to go on an expedition to the jungle to find talent.

Verbal Commits has Iona offering Ron Russeau (Sp?) a JUCO PG. Would he be Ibn's replacement? 86, do you know anything about him?
