According to a Tweet Iona has offered a 6-7 graduate forward from Southern Illinois U, Bola Olentangy, originally from Nigeria. Bola Olaniyan. 6'7'', 220. averaged 7.8 ppg/8.8rpg. Shot 86-152 (56%). Only 5 blocks, but 26 steals. Looks like he would be a very good recruit.

I found some video of Olaniyan on an ESPN site but for some reason could not copy it here. The kid would get significant minutes at Iona, although I don't know his level of interest. Also concerned about his three-game suspension last season; reason was the typical "violation of team rules.'' I guess that means marijuana, which wouldn't be a big deal, but it could have been something else. I'm very happy with the team Iona has assembled now; another frontcourt player fighting for minutes this season could be counterproductive.

I take this kid in a heartbeat. 2nd in the MVC in rebounding. He would be fill the missing piece, and have Iona right at the top of the MAAC again

Sharkey, I agree the kid can play and would be a high-level player in the MAAC. My concern with this team is that there seem to be too many players already who should get minutes. Tim Cluess is a veteran coach who is not going to change his ways at this point. Washington and Williams make a pretty good rotation as the power forward, or whatever the "big'' in this system is called. With three "bigs,'' at least one of them is going to be unhappy with his minutes. I won't be unhappy if Olaniyan winds up there but I just don't think Iona needs him. If he had more than one season of eligibility I would feel much differently.

I understand where you are coming from. But Williams is unproven at the D1 level and it remains to be seen which JW we get next year. This kid is a proven D1 level rebounder in a very good conference. Should be no problem splitting 80 minutes between JW, Williams, Olanyian and even another player like Gardiner. The real battle for minutes will be at the SG/SF spots, especially if Casimir is ready to play at the start of the season. Never have enough talent, as we saw last year with all of the injuries

Pretty sure he would be a graduate transfer, eligible immediately but only for one season. I could be wrong; maybe he hasn't graduated and would have to sit one season. He had a redshirt his first season.

Yes he would be a grad transfer. I know he had a 3 game suspension early in the season, but he played the rest of the season, and finished very strong. I have no idea if he has any interest in Iona. I checked the SIU message board, and there is an 8 page thread on his transferring. Except for maybe 2 posts, everything was very positive towards him and wishing him all the best. Not so much for their head coach. lol. Would love to get this young man

This would be a great get,8.8 rebounds in 26 minutes, led a good conference in rebounding, don't know how cloce we are but I feel he would be a started at the 4 spot, along with severe, cassell, much and jw,pretty nice starting 5 with a ton of depth!!
