Johnnies beat the Orange in Carrier Dome. We lost to Monmouth in the MAC. I believe in Iona's potential, but right now we are not even in the same conversation as those two teams.
Gotta agree wit '05 on this. Particularly Seton Hall is much better than Iona right now. Team that could make a run in the tourney - Of course Willards record come conference tournament time leaves allot to be desired, but this is by far his best team.
Agreed Greg. It's a tough pill for us to swallow, but we need to come to grips with the fact that we are not on the same level as SJU and SHU right now. SJU goes to the Dome and beats Cuse, then knocks off quality teams like Minnesota, St Mary's and Long Beach St. SHU beats SJU and handles GW who knocked off Wichita State. Meanwhile we came up empty against some very beatable teams like Mason and Monmouth.
This could all change very quickly, but right now not sure how we can claim to be on their level pound-for-pound.

You are falling under the NY media spell. Neither is close to a top 25 team, both are bubble NCAA teams and you will see that come year end. If both played iona on a neutral site we would win 1 of them, and yes part of that would be because we would want it more. Neither team is that much better than Iona, it sounds like a homer but I believe it is true, heck St chicken had problems with Niagara at Louie the midgets arena. Deep hatred and the NY media is making it grow, they are desperate to make St. chicken a national player again, and they aren't yet despite the ridiculous #15 ranking. If they are so much better than us why won't they play us, they can get the easy win and it wouldn't hurt their RPI. deep hatred! Villanova is going to show you how far they are from a top 25 team.

Preach, brother.
These are the same people who whine when we lose an ncaa game.

IMO, Joebird and Guy are correct. I'll admit that St. John's is playing much better than I thought they would, but it's a laugh that they are the #15 team in the country. Seton Hall played without their best player, Isaiah Whitehead and have much more potential. But they are young and make a lot of foolish mistakes. They do have the Aircraft Carrier (was that Al McGuire?) to build around and their future is brighter. National media called the Pirate win an upset, and technically they were correct, as I saw the spread as ONE POINT in favor of SJU. If we played either team we'd have a shot, not saying we'd win, as we'd have to play a lot better than we have so far. Outcome would probably depend upon how low long it would take DL to foul out the opposition center.

Listen, I believe in our team and Cluess' record shows we will get bet better, but being objective right now both St. John's and Seton Hall are better and from what I have seen (Only 2 games) Seton Hall has the potential of being a dangerous NCAA team. Could both fall flat in conference play? Sure, it's a tough conference. Go Gaels!

Just going based on resume, there is no way we are in the same conversation as either team right now. The point is not that there is no BE bias or that we can't hang with either on a neutral floor or that we won't be in better shape come March. The point is that if you stack our resume up to theirs right now we don't compare.

I don't want St Johns or Seton Hall to be better than us, but they are. If St Johns isn't the 15th best team in the country, are they 25, 30 or 35? We aren't. Are they 55? We aren't. I think we will get better and Coach Cluess will have this team improving as the season moves forward. But how do you even mention us with St Johns and Seton Hall right now when both have RPI's and BPI's better than 30? Let's not let the facts stand in our way.
I am not arguing that we are better than either SJU or SH. All I'm saying is that SJU is not the 15th best team in the country. And while SH has more of an upside than SJU, IMO, they are not a Top 25 team. Both probably are in the 25-35 range. Argue for or against St. John's but don't confuse the issue by comparing them to Iona.
Both teams play in a better league, have better facilities, better looks by recruits and better facilities. They are both better teams and both would beat us.
We should be compared to Fordham. We are doing better than them with less resources.

Nice win for SHU against SJU. Good game with old fashioned NYC hoops feel to it. Would love to get a crack at either of these two in March. Right now they are leaps and bounds ahead of us. Hopefully that will change come March.
This is where the thread changed 59. And I believe 05 is correct.

What would their records be playing the exact schedule we played? Those two teams played like 3 road games and like 484626 home games.
