Hard to compare during early season. At this point SJ and SHU deserve some props. Certainly more competitive than the past few years. SHU pretty young and if continue to develop they could surprise some teams. Comparisons with Iona right now not productive. Let's win the MAAC and we can revisit. It would be nice if they would give Iona a game. Maybe in future years when they need RPI bumps Iona can get a game.

I used to hate both teams but to be honest their alumn/administration just do more to get them noticed. SHU will be a player and its obvious to me that the Lyons/Willard combination with the BE realignment have them in a better place.
The Maac blows. Fordham, LaSalle and Fran got it right. Leave and be relevant.

Just going based on resume, there is no way we are in the same conversation as either team right now. The point is not that there is no BE bias or that we can't hang with either on a neutral floor or that we won't be in better shape come March. The point is that if you stack our resume up to theirs right now we don't compare. What would their records be playing the exact schedule we played? Those two teams played like 3 road games and like 484626 home games. Obviously this is all speculative, but if we had SJU's schedule we'd probably be 7-5, a full 3 games behind where they are at right now. With SHU's schedule ditto, we'd probably be 8-5, also 3 games behind them.

Seton Hall is better than both us and St Johns. Mostly because of the local flavor on the roster

For the previously 4 years Iona by all stats was the best team in the Metro area...During that time we won almost 100 games, more then any other team, and we have made an effort to meet a strong OOC schedule...
Yet...We never placed higher in the final RPI or polls then the mid 40's.....St. John with a weak schedule and a record of 11-2 for a third of a season is already in the top 20 and one city sport writer is touting them as a top 10. They made one short trip to Syracuse, but they have otherwise never left the confines of New York City...
The N.Y.City newspapers and its sport writers are desperate for a city team to propel into national prominence and if none is warranted, they will manufacture one......We won if memory serves 29 games one year and trounced the Nations No. 1 team in New York City but still had to wait until a after season poll to finally crack the Top 20 at number 19..............That is the way the cards are stacked. It will never change.........

OT, unfortunately you are correct. The sad part is that even some of the posters on this Board are buying this BS. And I don't mean just Tiger who is a SJU fan and naturally feels that way. And TAU, I believe, is also a SJU fan. No problem with their support for their team. It's the Iona fans who have seen St. John's being very bad for so long, now can't differentiate between good and very good. They are a good team, and Seton Hall might become a very good team, as they have much more upside, but it's laughable that "those in the know" rank them so highly. Season hasn't hit the half way mark yet, so we'll see.

This twisting and sarcastic BS is no way to start the new year is it? I don't like St Johns or Seton Hall, but I try to be honest. Are you "in the know"?

Chelsea, am I in the know? Now who is being sarcastic? I don't have a vote in either the media or the coaches poll. And fortunately, for me, I'm not fooled by either poll.
