Just read the Siena board, Around the MAAC. And even though the comments about Iona were generally favorable, Tony closed with the following. *I've never seen a fan base do so much whining about referees. They cry on every call that doesn't go their way, or something to that effect. "Earth to Tony, come in Tony".

LOL, that's got to be for the Iona readers of their board. Read big apple buckets. Looks like Templon agreed with our take on the game last night. At least we didn't have a thread dedicated to John Hughes. At least not yet

He had to find something to say that he thought was negative.

FF fans, at last have something to cheer about, even if it's a home OT win over a winless South Dakota (0-5) team. And the game was played before 1487 fans at the Webster Bank arena. But they had two high scorers, who I've never heard of. One is a 6'7 junior, Mike Kirkland who scored 20, with eight rebounds and six assists. Couldn't find anything about his first tow years, knowing the Stags don't take JUCO's. Can anyone help? And the team's high scorer was a 6'3 freshman, Tyler Nelson from Bradford, MA. So they have reason to hope.

Mike Kirkland is a 6'7" PF , originally from NJ who moved from Florida before high school. He is indeed a JUCo as he attended Eastern Florida CC. He averaged 10ppg and 7rpg as a sophomore in JUCO. A bit of a late bloomer who improved a great deal in JUCO. Also had offers from Drexel, Louisiana-Lafayette, Niagara, Ball State, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Tennessee Tech and Bethune-Cookman. Decent player with a role to play but I would not expect him to be anything better than average in the MAAC.
Tyler Nelson is a coaches son with a high game IQ. He can hit the deep jumper. Catch and shoot type player. He will kill you if left open but the question at the college level is if he can create enough separation to get his shots off. Had offers from Datmouth, Jacksonville, UMass Lowell, Vermont, Binghamton and GWU with interest from Holy Cross and Quinny.
The value of the home court is evidenced by the Siena games against Fordham and Quinnipiac. Siena fans do have a good argument that Wright is the best pure (Scott Machado) PG in the MAAC, and he does make those playing with him better. AJ English is more of a score first PG, or should we consider him a combo guard? CC is another shoot first guard, and perhaps Kelvin Amayo is our best option of someone who looks to pass first. I still think that Manhattan isn't as bad as they've looked so far. But Andujar and Wilson have to step up their games in order to see the Jaspers move up. But last night belonged to the Saints who sent a message they will be tough to beat come March.
Just saw a report that Brett Bisping will be out for about eight weeks. He joins Silas on the sidelines and it is a big blow for the Saints. It does give their promising freshman, Brandywk (Sp?) additional minutes and I would imagine that JP will move Long to the PF spot, and play Wright, Oliver and Poole at the one, two and three. So there is still talent available for the Saints, and more importantly give their more delusional fans an out in case their season doesn't end in a top half regular season finish.
Two more things: 1. Desi Washington might be back for SPU in their game, tonight, vs. Princeton. 2. Tonight's Monmouth-Fordham game is on SNY. And my question is what is the over/under for the number of times that the Monmouth-Iona game is mentioned on the telecast. I'm guessing five, and if Vin Parise is doing the game, I'll go under. If he isn't I'm going over. (Smiley Face)

Have to think there is some sort of ban on mentioning either Iona or Manhattan during Fordham infomercials.
Fordham friend called me last night and told me that if FU was in the MAAC they would be a tournament finalist. Only Manhattan stands in their way of a perfect MAAC season, and Iona better hope that FU doesn't downgrade to the MAAC. I did tell him to play some away games. His response was that away games don't affect defense, and the Rams know how to play defense.Well, Manhattan is our last hope to bring Fordham down to earth. I do think that FU plays pretty good defense and they held Robinson, who had 25 against us, to single digits.
Desi returned, last night, played 30 minutes, shot 60% and scored 18 points as SPU defeated Princeton. St. Peters will be better with him in their lineup.

LOL! That's really funny. Go easy on your friend. Fordham basketball has had a very rough time the last 20+ years and any glimmer of hope sets off delusions of granduer.
They are better off without Severe though; with him gone they have a good shot at winning 10 to 12 games this season. Problem is that teams will stop taking them lightly now and will play hard against the Rams from the start of the game. Just like those two ex-D2 teams that beat Fordham did.
