at Drexel today. That's pretty damned impressive this early in his 5th year at Iona and in his first NCAA D-1 gig.
We are very fortunate to have him at the helm at Iona. He has chosen some great assistants.
Go Gaels!!!

I agree, tau. We've had some good ones, but TC is a proven consistent winner. Hope to see him around for a good long time and many more "W"s.
Go Gaels!!!

Congrats to TC! Quite the accomplishment. Reasonable minds will rank TC no worse than 2nd on the Iona modern era (post McDermott) coaching list, with only an elusive NCAA win or some more longevity standing between him and the top spot:
1. Valvano 2. Cluess 3. Kennedy 4. Ruland 5. T Welsh 6. Willard 7. Brokaw 8. J Welsh

Not to take anything away from him but it hasn't hurt that the Maac has been horrible since he's been here. Valvano, Kennedy and Ruland played much tougher competition.
He inherited some really good talent.

As much as I love TC you're talking about ranking him above a legendary coach who transformed Iona from nothing into a relevant program with national respect, and who coached the most talented and most winning team in the program's history along with the only NCAA win to date. Not saying he can't surpass valvano, but tough to put him there right now IMO.

So Valvano was more successful here?

Had he not lost his staff he would have won a ton of games. He was also a loyal guy. Miss him.
