Masiello is on with Kay now. He just said that if Pankey doesn't get 6th year, he will look to go play overseas . I thought he had 1 year left

tau, so did I. But a week or two ago on the MAAC board I read about the sixth year. Naturally, I figured it was incorrect, as it is the MAAC board.

Ashton Pankey received medical redshirt for his freshman year due to injury, played one year at Maryland and then transferred to Manhattan. Sat out a year due to transfer and then played this year. I do not think the NCAA will grant another year since he did not get hurt and was physically unable to play for a second year. Usually they grant the rare 6th year when injuries are involved. Masiello maybe motivated to get out of Manhattan now before he tries to compete next year without Andujar, Pankey, Stores and Kates. If he had Pankey coming back they are much better team.

Manhattan board seems resigned to him going.

Heard from an alum that GMU may be looking at him. Does that make sense?
Also, Rick Barnes out at Texas!

Hes still a little raw but expect to see him eventually at LVille.
Pitino looks old these days. Not sure is those are his cheeks or IC59's ass.

I don't understand all this talk about Masiello leaving Manhattan. I was told last year after Manhattan took him back, that there are very harsh financial penalties if the contract is terminated early. Does anyone know anything different?

Manhattan got their very good coach back. They were happy to get him despite the issue he had. While there are penalties, if a higher level school wants him, they will pay.

A few on the Manhattan board are speculating that the buy-out may not be that much of a deterrent. Their AD is under some fire.

No. Seems that the more intelligent posters understand the consequences of their success. As mentioned earlier in this thread what is surprising is Masiello's obvious desire to bolt. It's almost like he doesn't give a crap re hiding his intentions to leave re the Manhattan administration. Why would a high school or JUCO talent take a risk and sign there when it's obvious he has no intention of staying.

I don't agree with what he did but he is a valuable commodity. It seems like the intelligent posters realize this.

Don't blame him for that. It's all about improving your position in life and he has certainly earned his right to do that. The salary they quoted on the Manhattan board is certainly not commensurate with his performance. He's a very good coach and a tenacious competitor and has respected our program in the process. I wish him well if he goes or stays as long as it's not against us.

If recruits do not take offers from Manhattan he will only have himself to blame. Feel bad for his assistants working hard to sell the program and Masiello one foot out the door.
