This would be a hopeful point, except we are in the same boat!

P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E. We will know soon enough. At least Manhattan is not involved.

The kid has a decision to make. If he chooses Iona... fantastic. If he feels he can develop his skills more efficiently, get the education he is seeking and enjoy himself more at another school... good luck to him. He is already part of the Iona family and has grown up around the program. Keep him in your prayers and let us hope he makes the best decision for himself and his family.

This would be a hopeful point, except we are in the same boat! I have the feeling it would be much easier for Cluess to run off one of his players than a 4 star player from KU :-)

There is also the possibility that a player or two that we don't know about has decided to go elsewhere for more playing time.

Syracuse is on Double Secret Probation by the NCAA. Here is a list of the full penalties, announced by the NCAA against Syracuse: •Five years of probation, from March 6, 2015, through March 5, 2020. •Vacation of all wins in which ineligible men’s basketball students played in 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2010-11 and 2011-12 and ineligible football students played in 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07. The public decision contains additional details. •Fine of $500 per contest played by ineligible students. •The school must return to the NCAA all funds it has received to date through the former Big East Conference revenue sharing for its appearances in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. •Suspension of the head basketball coach from the first nine conference games of 2015-16. •Reduction of men’s basketball scholarships by three for the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years. If the school has already executed scholarship offers for the 2015-16 year, the school may begin the four-year penalty with the 2016-17 year. •Reduction in the number of permissible off-campus recruiters from four to two from June 1, 2015, through May 31, 2017. •The panel also accepted the school’s self-imposed postseason ban for the 2014-15 season, but noted that self-imposition of penalties after the conclusion of infractions hearings does not influence the outcome. •Additional self-imposed penalties can be found in the public decision. www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/06/ncaa-syracuse-jim-boeheim-investigation-suspension_n_6817444.html

OK, but isn't it possible that a player or two at Syracuse have decided to go elsewhere for more playing time? I think Cuse only has 9 scholarships total Syracuse only has 10 scholarships for the next four years. By my count they have no scholarships open , and even if they did, they seem to need the most help at PG (Kaleb Joseph + 3 walk ons) and SF (only Michael Gbinije)... They return the following scholarship players: Michael Gbinije Trevor Cooney Kaleb Joseph Tyler Roberson - Junior - 6'8" PF - ESPN Top 50 Player DaJuan Coleman - Junior 6'9" PF/C - McDonald's All American and ESPN Top 15 Player Chinonso Obokoh - Soph 6'10" Center Incoming 2015 classMalachi Richardson Franklin Howard Moustapha Diagne- 2015 recruit 6'8" C ESPN Top 100 Player Tyler Lydon- 2015 recruit 6'8" PF - ESPN Top 100 Player They also have a verbal commit from 2016 Top 100 player PF Matthew Moyer. I do not see another big helping them very much. Even at SG, they have one upperclassman and two freshmen. The are also on probation for the next five years... any more issues and they will have additional NCAA tournament bans. Living with 10 scholarships makes it tough to compete in their conference... especially with injuries and it takes away the ability to redshirt freshmen to help their development. Add that to the "one and done" mentality of many of their recent recruits... it could end up a painful few seasons in Syracuse's future as well as a revolving door for the players.

Any word on how Chukwu's visit went? Campus must have been pretty quiet. Was there an open gym?

Joebird, why are you surprised? Most fans and reporters covering major programs ignore mid-major programs because they feel they are irrelevant and cannot possibly compete against them for recruits/transfers. To Syracuse fans it would unthinkable to them that they would lose out to Iona, because they are S-Y-R-A-C-U-S-E. To them Iona is not even an afterthought.

Actually, the Orange has to worry about three other mids: Iona Tech, Iona University, and Little Iona College. If you folks can think of other names we've been called (Iowa doesn't count), by all means add to the list.
By the way, in this serious, adult thread there are no MUCH puns allowed.
