Siena offered him when Patsos was there. We also know that Patsos was personally recruiting this kid (going to his games after the kid received the offer) which was pretty rare since Patsos was a very lazy recruiter. Patsos either really liked what he saw or they must have served great food at the game and/or had a Greatful Dead tribute band playing at halftime. Siena's new coach, (JC) might not have been interested or he may have only seen this kid play while he was still recuperating from his ankle injury? The injury consisted of a bruised ankle bone, dislocation of the ankle and a major sprain. He was injured in the last week of December of 2017... it is a minimum of 6 months for a full recovery for such injuries.
He is a tough player, can shoot, is a leader, gives 1000% every game and has a high hoops IQ. While I do not see him being the next AJ English or MoMo, I think he will contribute. We would have killed to have Casimir back on the team this year and the biggest knock on him was a lack of D or inability to guard larger players... this kid is 6'4" and actually plays defense. Before going Prep, neither AJ or Schadrac had any offers. I understand that this kid may not have a handful of Div 1 offers but we have seen plenty of players who could have contributed that slipped down to the Div 2 level because of injuries, not playing for the right AAU program or due to a lack of exposure. A recent example of this is 6'5" Osbel Caraballo, who we offered last year and the kid decided to go to STAC. He is averaging 13.2 ppg, leading STAC in points. He has very good fundementals, hustles and leads by example. The team is not run around him by any means and I would say he is used more as a third scoring option. I have watched him play about a half dozen times this year and I can assure you that he is a better player than Hudson, Maxwell, Nikolic or Still (from what we have seen this year)... I believe that Ortale could be a more athletic version of Kyle Smyth or a more consistant Ben Perez with better defensive and passing skills. Either way...we need shooters and this kid fits the bill. In the MAAC, a kid like this could develop into a 10 ppg player just running off screens and shooting. If his game develops he could be a lot more than that.
I am just glad we did not recruit anymore 6'8" guys who think they are guards.
Just saw some talk about this kid on twitter. They say he is being under-recruited and has game similar to Isaiah Williams. Do we have anything on him?

Devale Johnson would be great in the Iona system. He visited Iona multiple times. I really hope the staff is recruiting him hard, but I am starting to have my doubts. Putting up big stats at his JUCO this year.
I’m always intrigued by player rankings, highlight films and the commentary on recruits. Lots of good stuff here on Mike Ortale from Bethlehem H.S. In th Albany area. Certainly hope it’s all true, that we land him and that he will contribute to our future success. However, in this case (see enclosed), he is ranked the 6th best player in the greater Albany area. This would not even make him the 6th best player in Westchester County. My basis for this conclusion is that Westchester is just under 1,000,000 population and Albany county is around 300,000. Not statistically sound I’m sure, but makes you wonder...
The kid Joe Girard III signed by Syracuse, is a spectacular athlete and may prove to be one of the best ballers ever out of NYS.

The other kids listed ahead of Ortale are pretty good. Jackson has multiple HM offers. Mahoney had HM interest and committed to Yale. O'dell and King have similar offers/interest as ortale, but have better stats which is probably why they were ranked higher on this all star list. Wouldn't be overly concerned.

love the fact the kid isn't a high scorer, like to have an all around player that also plays D i'm sure we will get a scorer or 2, better chemistry if not everybody is here to just get their stats we usually rely on the 5th yr transfers for that role looking forward to a freshman that plays that way

Robert Carpenter - a 6'7" SF out of Detroit and Mt. Zion Prep, Detroit Family AAU and Michigan Mustands AAU. Had a good game earlier in the year in a win against number one ranked Brewster Academy. Dropped 29 points on St. Thomas More recently. Offers from Temple, Cal State Fullerton, North Texas, Younstown State, Southern, Southern Utah, Eastern Kentucky and Stony Brook. He could be an impact player at the MAAC level. He is the kind of player that could put up great numbers in the Cluess system.
Souting Reports:
"Robert Carpenter (Michigan Mustangs/Mt. Zion Prep, MD) showed absolutely no mercy for anyone this past weekend at the #C2KClassic The big man controlled the paint all weekend long and was a man among boys!" - The D Zone Basketball 20 May 2018
"The physical and athletic attributes that have college coaches pulling in their chair. He has a solid skill set which produces from the the perimeter and mid-range off the pull up jumper as well as the ability to drive to the basket and finish over rim protectors. Carpenter has a quality basketball IQ in that he's a team defender and makes others around him better with efficient play." - Insider Prep Sports
"He wasn’t particularly memorable when I was coaching against GreenWood at the 16U level last year, then it was the Jamal Cain (Marquette) show in the winter for Cornerstone. That perception has all changed as Carpenter stole the show for the Mustangs at REACH’s July Tuneup tournament. Bouncy, active, finisher, shooter, rebounding outside area, doing so much you want from the forward spot." - Bank Hoops
"Carpenter and Carter are the type of guys I wanna roll with whether we’re going to a pickup game, a streetfight or a burning building. Carpenter, a 6’7” wing, recently saw his recruiting reach another level with an offer from Temple." -Rodrick Harrison, Head Coach Mt Zion Prep.
This kid can play. Just got the scoop. Carpenter committed to Temple after the signing period. Since Carpenter didn't sign yet, Temple pulled the offer because they changed their mind and wanted to now use that scholarship on a PG. Was told Carpenter plays with a high motor, very athletic and can shoot out to the 3-point line. He is 6'7'' 215 and plays SF/PF. The knock on him is the defensive side of the ball, where he gets caught out of position at times, leading to dumb fouls. Getting some interest from lower tier HM programs. Hope the staff can land this kid.
Follow up for Carpenter. He has received multiple A10 offers the last few days. Oh well, on to the next
