Impressive start to season for Monmouth. 05 I agree that if Monmouth continues to play this way Coach Rice is moving on. Must see basketball in MAAC this year might be Iona-Monmouth.

Gotta say this is where I disagree with Cluess'scheduling policy, he's not a fan of these tournaments because of their cost (I guess?) but you cannot put a price on what Monmouth did today. Getting a major on a neutral court is worth it, period. Monmouth is beating Notre Dame on a neutral floor and has 2 more shots coming while we are playing tournaments that have us playing road games. Dumb.
Also note that Cluess has no huge OOC wins in his career while Monmouth has 2 in 4 games this season. Face it, Monmouth has passed us, people. They are the favorite.

Agree guy, cluess totally wrong about not playing in these tourneys. They are worth the money, it's the only way to get a win against a top 40 team. That was our game they played tonight, we backed out of that spot. Monmouth getting these wins is great for us if we can beat them 2 of 3, but can we?

I agree and I was completely befuddled when a number of posters were suggesting that Iona was going to mow through the MAAC. Ain't happening. Monmouth, Canisius, and Siena will all be very tough games (home and away).

As many of you know, my point is and has been, is that the MAAC is much improved (their top teams) this year. And as for King Rice leaving, I have no idea if he's looking to cash in, at the first opportunity. But the speculation that he'll be leaving sounds like the MAAC Board's speculation, every year, about TC. And as for not being in these neutral court tournaments, which were always a staple of our OOC scheduling, I have no idea if this Tim's doing, or is the policy of the Athletic Department? My guess is TC, but it's only a guess. And forget King Rice, the scary part about Monmouth is that whether he stays or goes, Monmouth has a home court, that we can only dream about. The good news is that the Hawks' win is great for the MAAC.

Great for the MAAC to have a team performing at the level Monmouth is now. In the long run I hope not being the anointed MAAC favorite shakes Iona up and brings out our best. This is complete speculation on my part but I have suspected that our favorite status has created a certain level of complacency in the program. Let's hope that Monmouth's emergence as the MAAC favorite spurs the competitive juices of the players and staff.
Very impressed with Rice and his team. They showed the ability to pull upsets on a big stage and looked very poised doing so. I wish the same for Iona.

Competition always good. All teams benefit as they realize you have to focus everyday. The challenge will bring out the best in everyone is the hope. Looking forward to seeing how the season progresses. GO GAELS!

Monmouth is having a magical start to their season, and they deserve all the credit for it.
However...the ball hasn't even been tipped on a MAAC game yet and we're already annointing them. I still think Iona will be the better team, but time will tell. Give us some time to gel.
Let's also not forget that some of our most impressive OOC wins came in years that ended in disappointment (UNC upset finished 5th in MAAC, etc.).

First to admit that my selection as Canisius as the runner up to Iona is now seriously challenged by Monmouth...I welcome being wrong as long as the MAAC's reputation rises and it once again becomes a competitive conference...It is however very early in the season, and if we ever play again the hope being we can once again regain our well earned top spot position... Monmouth's win will bring life to the MAAC and new interesting matchup competitions will shine....

Even though our schedule is ok, this is what gets you in the paper and at large bids, nobody cares if you beat valpo and akron, we know they are good wins but others don't care. Maybe we don't play them because our run and gun style doesn't work 3 days in a row. O5, those kids that beat NC went to 3 NCAA tournaments , i think it worked out ok for them How many wins since then are we known for?

Talking about King Rice, go on to the MAAC Board and see if you could find (about a year ago) what the brain surgeons, who post there, had to say when Monmouth gave him a contract extension.

The team that beat UNC was a disappointment that year, finishing fifth in the MAAC, and it took them three years later to go to their first and only NCAA tourney. Not sure where you are getting the 3 tourney appearances from.
