Gotta say this is where I disagree with Cluess'scheduling policy, he's not a fan of these tournaments because of their cost (I guess?) but you cannot put a price on what Monmouth did today. Getting a major on a neutral court is worth it, period. Monmouth is beating Notre Dame on a neutral floor and has 2 more shots coming while we are playing tournaments that have us playing road games. Dumb. Also note that Cluess has no huge OOC wins in his career while Monmouth has 2 in 4 games this season. Face it, Monmouth has passed us, people. They are the favorite. Pure speculation, but would suspect that the lack of participation in neutral OOC tourneys over the past few seasons has been the result of it being cost prohibitive more than the coaches not wanting to do it.

For those who feel I am speculating about Cluess' disinterest in these tournaments, my source is Tim Cluess.

Does anyone know if the MAAC is still ranked #25?

Does anyone know if the MAAC is still ranked #25? 19th as of the moment. League went from looking horrible to possibly looking better than expected. Early in Monmouth game but maybe just maybe UCLA and Notre Dame aren't going to be as good as expected, Monmouth doesn't look any better than Iona.

Robinson is a stud, Good enough to carry them. We shall see if they are indeed better than us, early on you would say yes, but I am not so sure, could be, but possibly not, too early to tell.

Ok yes I admit it right now Monmouth is indeed better. Great chemistry and a great pg but still a long year ahead of us, we shall see.

Having a great point guard is very important but I'm more concerned that we have yet to determine who will help compliment Washington regarding the rebounding duties. Trust me, if pills aren't squeezed, were toast.

Two things: 1. Guy, since you have a background in Journalism, what was TC's answer to your obvious follow up question about the neutral site tournaments?
2. Watched Monmouth lose to Dayton, last night, and came away with a couple of observations: *Like Iona they are very entertaining to watch play. *Justin Robinson is super quick, but also small, with potential to wear down in a game, and maybe in a season. He had 28 points vs. Dayton, but I don't think he scored in the last four or five minutes. *One thing that they don't have, that they had last year, is Kofane's shot blocking and rim protection.
If things go as expected, the over/under when we play them will be about 175.

Just noticed on Zagsblog, that the fields are out for next year's major neutral site tourneys, and naturally we aren't included. Quinny is in the tournament that Monmouth is in (Orlando) this year.
Our major fund raising campaign is titled, "Iona Forever". Seems that when it comes to these type tourneys, we're more like, "Iona, Never".

A while ago I had heard we were in the 2016 great Alaskan shootout for Hines sr year but basically that is a mid major tourney.

Monmouth getting all the attention early on and deservedly so. They look like the team to beat so far. I'm glad they are the focus and getting all the attention early. Gives us the chance to build our team. Let's get to work. Again I'd rather be getting the attention in March, not November.
