Gardiner is a tough loss, but Williams and Svandrlik should figure to be the most important frontcourt newcomers on the team.

I expected Gardiner to be a significant contributor. Is he definitely not on the team? This happens all the time, I understand. Did something happen, though?

Not a positive development.

Cluess usually has a lot of roster uncertainty at the beginning of each season, but this is unusual even by recent standards. Late arrival expected, maybe a mid season transfer? Or did a few things just unexpectedly fall apart for the staff? Anyone have an inkling of what's going on?
We better hope we don't have any more injuries, lest this turn into a season like Manhattan's last year.

Just a thought. A lot of guys come in not knowing how much is expected of them physically.

Just a thought. A lot of guys come in not knowing how much is expected of them physically. When they commit I am sure they are given an exercise program to explain what is expected of them before they arrive. If these players watched a game they know we push the ball and to do that you need to be in excellent shape. If this is happening and they are still walking away because of conditioning we are either picking the wrong kids or the staff is doing a shitty job of communicating what is expected of players in our program.

That was just my opinion, no source. From the little video I seen, Gardiner looked a step slow for the pace we play. Saying that, we still could've used him

Let's just say Gardiner was not IONA material

iona05 says that Svandirk and Williams figure to be the most important front court newcomers on the team. Unfortunately, at least as of now they are THE ONLY front court newbies.

I saw Gardiner play about three or four times this summer, and it seemed to me that he would have thrived at Iona. At worst he would have split time with Jan at the PF. And while both Jan and he are natural SF's, I think that Jehyde would have had an easier transition to PF, because he looked like a better rebounder than Jan, and had a better inside game. However Jan is a much better athlete, was in the best shape of anyone on the team, not named Ricky McGill.

There could be a whole host of reasons for athletes not arriving on campus. Just conjecture until confirmed by coaching staff or the athletes in question. Not really concerned or our business. Welcome to the new arrivals and anxiously looking froward to seeing them on the court. Everybody needs to pray about team health for the upcoming year. Hopefully Casimir can comeback slowly with minimal issues.
