One of our librarians asked me for the date that Don McLean first appeared at Iona - a patron thought it was 1974 or 1975. I was able to use the digitized Ionian to find the date - 2/21/75. While looking up that information, I came across two other stars who played Iona - The Supremes and Jay and the Americans. I highly urge everyone to look at and utilize the digitized version of The Ionian - it is a great way to spend time looking back. While I feel like they built the campus around me, I have "only" been on campus since 1982 so I enjoy coming across information I didn't know or had forgotten. For example, I never knew we had an East Hall prior to the dorm of that name (the site of the old Walsh Hall) - better known now as Hagan Hall! I also had forgotten that Mother Teresa spoke at graduation. I did remember the Dalai Lama's visit as i had the opportunity see him speak at Mulcahy and at Ryan Library - whwre I got to hold the door for him. There is no truth to the rumor that I greeted him by saying, "Hell, Dalai!" :-) For digital version of The Ionian: library.biblioboard.com/anthology/2f13a8f2-d3a4-45f6-9c64-3e6d1aa4f96e

One would have to traverse the gravel parking lot which is now Mazzella field and you'd be farther away from the bar strip on North Ave.

Off the top of my head, it was February 1975 (might have been the 2nd?).

tootie, THANKS for your info about the Ionians being digitized. I was able to read ALL my old columns, written when I was the Sports Editor, ('58-59). Also, came across a picture of myself in Senior Spotlight. Can't wait to show my grand children, and listen to them tell me, "You weren't better looking, but you were younger looking".
