Tobin is a very good coach and has done a great job recruiting while playing in a gym that makes the Hynes Center look like MSG. He plays an up-tempo offense that has great spacing and ball movement while offering up great shots for 3 ball shooters. He also loves to press and put pressure on the ball handlers. I have watched about 25 STAC games over the last two years and he has impressed me. If Siena had handed him the keys to the program instead of Patsos... they would have been much more competitive and played a much more exciting brand of hoops. The guy can coach.

I just don't want a coach who brings folding chairs onto the court during time outs. Jesus.

If TC is in fact leaving for SJU surely the Iona job would be a very attractive job. There should be a lot of high quality candidates that would want to take a run at the job. For sure though they need to be mindful that as 4x defending MAAC Tourney Champs the job also comes with a ton of pressure.
I'm really not sure how and if can we find another coach like TC.
A hot young assistant from a P% Conference team would be nice, maybe they bring a player with them. However, let's face it, if successful they will also probably leave as soon as possible for a bigger job. The STAC candidate mentioned previously is also interesting. I'm not worried about his ability to step up in level or should I be?
Do we really want a retread, I say no.
Like many have said already, I'm thankful that we had Tim as long as we did. All he did is WIN! He further strengthened Iona's rep as a solid mid-major and his teams played an exciting brand of basketball.

Seeing how good the Cluess offensive strategy has been in the maac, we need a coach like Grasso who will continue that. It's a bit of a sad time to be an Iona fan if Cluess does leave because of the decade of dominance that he brought. We have definitely been spoiled and it will probably show in the upcoming season.

Apparently Hurley was advised not to take the St Johns by a few different people. Including local high school people

Or an attempt to force St John’s hand. This uncertainty isn’t good for Iona. If Cluess is indeed leaving, we need to move on. If St John’s is keeping Cluess in the hook while they pursue other options, that hurts Iona.
It’s shit or get off the pot time for St John’s.
Edited to add:
Maybe St John’s is jerking Cluess around while they search for a “better” option. And this is Iona’s way of surfacing that.

Odd statement to release: First salvo in the buyout negotiations! Yeah Iona fires a shot and points out how badly SJ’s is acting in this drama. Have to be careful we don’t look like we’re trying to guilt Cluess into staying.

Odd statement to release: First salvo in the buyout negotiations! Yeah I figured that this is Iona's way of saying to SJU "bring the full bag of money with you for the buyout as you are tampering with an employee under contract"... but why would SJU continue to make mistakes like this? All they needed to do is ask for permission to talk to him. They are a hot mess.

I think that’s exactly what’s going down. Reading Amaker’s name now and Schoyer again. St. John’s sucks administratively. More leaks than the White House. Well we know we’ve got Cluess if we have to but let’s see if we can get a less controversial guy to assuage the barbarians who habituate their boards.

Regarding Mike Lonergan, he was accused of some pretty destructive behavior with his players (who revolted on him) at George Washington and at Catholic University before that. Not sure what his reputation was at Vermont. No question the guy can coach (he has been successful everywhere, all the way back to DeMatha High School), but, like Mike Rice, I think Coach Lonergan is in serious need of counseling. To my knowledge, he has never owned up to his poor behavior.
