Per NCAA rules, teams are allowed to play 4 games as part of these "preseason tournaments". As such, Purdue is going to host Western Michigan as part of the PR Tipoff AFTER the teams get back from PR. www.purduesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/093011aaa.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitterI take this as arrogance on the part of Purdue. Should Temple beat WMU and Iona upset Purdue, Purdue and WMU would meet in the 2nd round--you wouldn't set up a game to host them a week later if you had any inkling you might play them in the tourney. Let's run these Big 10 pansies into the f-ing ground.

I agree! Hopefully the coaches will use this as incentive. I hate to be arrogant myself but I actually expect Iona to win.

Two possibilities here, in my opinion,
1) Purdue coaching staff is sleeping on us (I hope this is it)
2) Purdue coaching staff is sending a message to its young team that it expects to win its first game (if this is the case, let's hope it backfires and the players sleep on us)
What's strange here is what if Purdue wins against us and W. Michigan upsets Temple? I guess they are saying that's not gonna happen either.

The more I think about it, this is a breathtakingly arrogant move by Purdue. I can't think of another example like this. Based on this alone, it appears Purdue considers their game against us a "fait accompli." I don't think we could hope for a better situation than for Purdue to go into this game thinking its already a win. I can't wait to play this game - not b/c I'm annoyed that they are "disrespecting" us, but b/c I don't want them to get educated between now and then. IMO this is a factor weighing heavily in our favor.
Either that, or Painter's a Packer fan and is doing what Mike McCarthy did before last year's Super Bowl, having the Packers measured for their rings the night before the game. One could argue this create's a "positive visual image" in the mind that is so compelling in sports. Just like visuallizing your shot going in the basket in your mind before you shoot it.

Iona 76, Purdue 64.

I'm going to take the opposing view on this one. Teams are always looking to get extra games - In reality Purdue could end up playing any of the other teams in the tournament. They scheduled a home game against a team in their back yard. Makes sense to me. I still hope we kick their ass!

Since we don't have a deep frontcourt, I would expect that after opening in a 'man' and one of our two bigs get called for a foul, we'll go into a zone. Hummel is a great player, and if we do have to guard him man to man, Randy would probably be the guy. But if Hummel plays down low, it will be tough for anyone on Iona, other than Mike, to guard him. And we don't want Mike to pull guard duty, unless it's late in the game, and Mike's not in foul trouble. JMO.
