The season is about a month old, and the following have caught my attention:
1. Randy D. is much better than I thought, particularly on defense. With a lead I like Taj on the floor, but if we fall behind, Randy is the man, especially if we have to press.
2. Is MoMo short for More, More? And if it is, does that mean we're expecting more, or we're getting more? Initially, I was expecting more, but that was probably my fault. New team, new position, etc. Since the second half of the Canisius game, he's been en fuego. If he can sustain that level, Iona should be special.
3. Next two games are critical. If we get at least a split, we'll finish the regular season with 25 wins. JMO. B/t/w, do we bring "MAAC" refs to any road games? Maybe SID knows. And I'm not saying that the refs we usually get are great, but at least we know what to expect.
4. Two MAAC teams continue to puzzle me, Rider and Fairfield. Rider seems to have a lot of talent, but don't win. They are really inconsistent, with some guys playing great one game and poorly the next. I'm sure Gadson being hurt is a factor, and I'm wondering if he should be shut down and apply for a medical redshirt. Or is it too late? Fairfield, on the other hand, is winning more than losing, but not really impressively. Needham is playing better, but is he an OG, a PG, or a combo? Sanders is great, but Wade has to be considered a major disappointment, and yet when you see him on the court, he doesn't look bad. I only saw a little of last night's game and it looked to me the the Stags were much better and yet on;y won by six. As they say, stay tuned.
5. Did anyone watch the games on our Buffalo trip? I only listened, but both Washinton (Canisius) and Green (Niagara) played very well. Who's better? And I understand one is a freshman and one a junior, but I mean who is better now?
6. Still early but Manhattan and Loyola are in the 'top four' imo, but like I said, it's still early.
7. I'll close with a question. Is Sanchez our main recruiting target?
