Big 12 schools about to jump to the Big 10 (Nebraska) and the Pac 10 (Colorado), probably today. Then the top Texas scholls and Oklahoma will reportedly follow Colorado to the Pac 10, and Kansas and K-State, along with Missouri might be left out in the cold. The Big East wants Kansas, supposedly, but its destination is still very much up in the air. All schools moving now are the BCS football schools, but how long before BB schools are affected? Will it filter down to the MAAC? Anyone have any ideas?

Lots of speculation about the Big East possibly turning into a power Catholic basketball league. If Syracuse and Pitt leave for football reasons, I could easily see a trickle down to the A10 with Xavier and Dayton joining the BE. My guess is the MAAC will be pretty insulated from all this.

Might Fordham trickle down to the MAAC - not necessarily by choice?
Whatever happens I'm still in favor of capping the number of teams from a given league going to the NCAAs. Cap it at 25%!
I know this will never happen, but I still would like to see it.

I pretty much agree with your assessment, except for your last sentence. I strongly believe Siena will leave the MAAC to become the Lynchpin of a power Catholic basketball league. I can't imagine the St. Johns, and Georgetowns of the world surviving without the assistance of such an established program as Siena and their national prominence.

Seton Hall will end up in the MAAC and we'll face Willard 2x's per year.

Supposedly, ND will remain Independent for football, and who knows about BB.

Here's a frightening scenario I'd hate to see unfold...
All this conference jockeying is being fueled by potential television revenue derived from football with the enormously successful Big Ten Network the (cash cow) business model.
Say, this all results in the formation of 4 major conferences of about 60 top football programs. How happy do you think the basketball coaches of these schools (who already aren't happy sharing the limelight and revenue with the George Masons and Butlers of the world) will be in this new scenario?
What if these super 60 decide they no longer want to participate with the other 260 D1 basketball schools? Let's get a monopoly on the basketball revenue too. This could be a real threat to the NCAA basketball tourney the way we know it.
I don't see this happening overnight, but the thought of the seeds possibly being planted for this is quite frightening for mid-major basketball fans. Just say'in.

Couldn't agree more CJB. When they didn't get the tournament to 96 teams, they began or continued to develop a plan B--an alternative hoops tournament. Add that to the potential of a "Final Four" football tournament, and the TV networks will be drooling!
