This Fall when Alejo steps on the court for an Iona game, he will have played for three Iona coaches, Jeff, Kevin and Tim. My question is he the first?
My answer, probably not, but I don't have any names. I'm basing this on the following: 1946-Brother Loftus was HC, followed by Pete Caruso in 1947, and Jim McDermott in 1948. And b/t/w, does anyone know anything about Pete Caruso? Did he stay in coaching when he left Iona? OT, SID, any info?

IC59, I thought about this too... 3 coaches in 4 years. He needed the components of a perfect storm for this accomplishment... unsuccessful coaching, medical redshirt and successful coaching... what a rollercoaster college career he's had.

Does anyone have the roster for each year? That would give the answer to the question.
I've been tempted to use the media guide and create a roster for each year based on the years shown for each player, but I've never moved beyond the tempted stage.

IC59......Have only a faint memory of Pete Caruso....We played in the old Army left over building located just about where Hynes is today....We played such teams as Paterson Teachers, New York Maritime, Yeshiva, and Webb Istitute of Naval Architect and Marine Engineering...(Where my son graduated from).....
With the long career of Jim McDermott I doubt very much that any other player played for 3 different coaches...The only other possibility I can think of is John O'Hagen who might have played for Brother Loftus, Caruso, and McDermott......Note: Freshmen could not play back then except on the Freshmen teams...We used to love to come to those early games to see what we would be getting the following year...
We have come a long way brother!!!!
Go Gaels!!!!

When Coach McDermott "retired" after the 1973 season, Red Roberti his long time assistant took over for the 1974 and 1975 seasons before Jimmy V was hired. The only players that would have played for all three coaches would have been classmates of mine but back in those days very few freshman played varsity ball. So long story short I don't think anyone from that era played for three different head coaches. I know many practiced under the three but I don't recall anyone getting to actually play in a game under all three.
