Bronx, N.Y. (November 26, 2013) - The Fordham University athletics program will serve two years on probation as a penalty for violating NCAA rules governing summer school for student-athletes, the NCAA announced today. From the 2008 summer term through the 2011 summer term, 87 prospective student athletes were erroneously provided with athletically related financial aid: each student enrolled in less than the required six credit hours during the summer term prior to full-time enrollment, as required by NCAA rules. No current Fordham student-athletes will be affected by the ruling and no games will be forfeited. "We are disappointed that a violation was committed but have cooperated with the NCAA in every step of the process," said David Roach, Fordham's director of athletics. "We vow to learn from this mistake and believe that this will make us a stronger department moving forward. We will work to ensure that we are 100 percent compliant with all NCAA rules and regulations in the future." The violation was discovered in June 2012, during an Academic Progress Report data review, a random audit performed by the NCAA. The University and the Athletics Department staff have worked with the NCAA on the investigation since the violation came to light. In addition to the probation sanction, Fordham will also undergo a standard NCAA compliance review. The university has put in place programs and controls to ensure future compliance with NCAA rules. The NCAA penalty is generally in agreement with the University's self-imposed sanctions. The NCAA considers the violation inadvertent.

Does anyone know what being on "Probation" means? Does it preclude them from participating in any post season play? Let's hope that when the audit is done, there are no further violations found.
