The effort on defense made me shake my head, no excuse for not bringing it like that every game! Play the rest of the season like that, and there will be very little disappointment for this team or us fans.

Can't cry about Drame missing for them, Beamon missed time and Iona has been banged up and lost IW for a bit too. Solid performance. SPC is the dreaded trap game. And next Friday is the Joebird danger game, we will have a packed, pumped crowd and we tend to lose those games. Sent from my HTC6435LVW using proboards If the Super Bowl isn't moved to Friday night, which is a possibility based on what the NFL is saying based on the forecast of snow next Saturday thru Monday, what a disaster that would be for The game and Richie Guerin day, only could happen to Iona!

From a logistical standpoint, I don't see any possible way the super bowl can be moved. They knew there was risk for snow in Jersey in February. They're not moving the game.

Sent from my HTC6435LVW using proboards That's not what the guy in charge said on Francesca this week. I think it's ridiculous, the game should be played as scheduled no matter what, they knew the risk they were taking, if they move it they are screwing a lot of people for various reasons and hopefully it doesn't ruin the biggest home game for Iona in many years.

Great win last night. Now onto St Peter's to avoid the let down before the big game next Friday. Some thoughts from last night:
1. Best ball movement we've had all year, it was really a thing of beauty. In fact, in some cases I think we were a little bit too unselfish and passed up open shots to find the next man over.
2. Agreed about IW doing all the little things to cause havoc even when he's not scoring. Case in point, he missed a shot last night that led to a transition break for QU, raced back hard on defense to get a hand in someone's face, which led to a missed shot and bucket for us the other way. Good to see.
3. Defense effort and intensity seems to be progressing each game. Hopefully the guys can keep it up. As I've said all along even a C effort on defense will win most night's with this team's offensive firepower.
4. AJ's 20 points are pretty incredible when you factor in how poorly he was shooting in the 1st half. He's really good at drawing fouls in penetration. Thought he rushed a few shots last night and also could mature a little bit more on the floor, but no doubt he is the future of Iona hoops for the next 2 years.
5. Concerned about DL3. The small lineup seems to be paying off right now, but just can't see us winning 3 in Springfield without DL3 being a force. He's picking up soft fouls, dumb fouls, and not finding a rhythm on offense. Hopefully he can get back to the form we all know he's capable of.
6. Quinnipiac coach is a punk for picking a fight with Grasso during hand shakes. I hope we meet them again in Springfield and really run the score up this time.
7. Quinnipiac is a good matchup for us only if we can jump on them early, as they're simply not built to play from behind or at the frenetic pace they need to play against us when they're down early.
8. Great work out of Poole last night with the exception of his foul trouble. He's turning into Mr. Intangibles for us.
9. Bowman seems to be playing with the confidence we need him to have. When we're getting offensive production from him, AJ and Armand like last night we are tough to beat as long as we play a splash of defense.
10. Surprised Hines isn't seeing the floor more. My guess is he's a bit banged up physically.
Bring on the Peacocks now, Go Gaels!!!

Agree with Guy (Super Bowl), JoeBird (Mike Poole) and Super (AJ). B/t/w, Mello's 62 points for the Knicks, last night, brings Richie Guerin to mind. Richie's 57 points in 1958 against the Syracuse Nationals puts him third on the Knicks' single game scoring list. And I'm pretty sure his 57, was BEFORE the three point shot. If he got credit for threes, he'd probably still own the record. Just a guess.
Getting back to last night's game, I don't think we'll lose in Springfield because of rebounding, but rather because of poor point guard play. Three point shooting can overcome poor ball handling, but highly doubtful, we'll be able to do it for three games. In two games against "Q" we had a total of 14 threes. It didn't seem that they defended us differently, but we were just missing shots that we usually make. JMO.

Excellent points!
Can't emphasize enough the importance of DL regaining his top form. Also, in my opinion Hines looked a step slow in his 2 previous games played. Not certain if it's an injury or perhaps the freshman is fatigued by the season and competition.
I believe Husker mentioned on another thread that Robinson is over the limit (as far as games played) to secure a redshirt. With that said, is he available in a week or two so he can contribute 5-8 mins a game and help our rebounding cause?

How much zone defense did we play last night? I saw almost exclusively man defense which extended pressure beyond the arc and allowed us to rebound better with better positioning. I hope this is sign of things to come and zone is used only to mix things up. Really great overall game.

java, answer is no on Robinson. Just covered it in another thread. 59 & 05 Thanks for pointing that out. We have to go with what we have and I imagine TC will tighten up the rotations to 8 players, as he did last night, and make adjustments accordingly as game situations and foul trouble dictate.

As Poole said, we were not going to be punked again by Q!

At game views.......5 Minutes into the game I felt the determination in the team and became confident of victory...When in this team mood we are arguably the class of the MAAC and now become the team to beat.....I also picked up the resignation in Quinny players and knew the game was ours... I decided at that point to watch individual performances as opposed to viewing the game in its entirety...I immediately saw the value of Williams and the intangible things he does...He is getting better and better and has become the spark that has ignited the teams fuse..........We were quick to blame A.J. for the few bad passes he recently made that possibly cost us a game, but he quickly showed that they were a learning process, and that he is on his way to becoming a Gail to be remembered......All in all it was a confident team victory......
This week will go a long way in deciding the MAAC....On Jan 30 Quinny meets Canisius at Hamden Conn. Root for Quinny...On Jan.31 we meet Manhattan in New Rochelle...A Gail victory coupled with a Grif. loss would put us in a commanding MAAC position....
To paraphrase ''It's not the beginning of the end, its end of the beginning.''

Heard last night, per a coach, that Daniel Robinson is out for the year and cannot be red shirted. Also, he is tentatively due have knee surgery which could him put him out for next season, as well. This will help him mature physically as he is young ... 19 years old and still filling out. The post game Goal Club receptions are a good information source.
