From the 12:00 minute mark of the 2nd half on, David Laury proved to the entire Iona fan base just how valuable he is. The guy was focused, driven and into the game. We are very lucky to have a Big East caliber player like DL on our squad.
I love how he made the adjustment to step back about 10 inches behind the free throw line before his shot. He looked more relaxed and I feel other teams will have to abandon the "hack a shaq" mentality in tight games down the stretch due to David's improvement from the line.
Nice job tonight Gaels!

What a night. So much to say. Some observations.
1. Best atmosphere in a long time (perhaps ever?) at Hynes. Now that was a college basketball environment, made you feel like you were at an event, not just a game.
2. Guerin total class act and can't think of a better ambassador for Iona than him.
3. MVP of the night is the administration, who showed the vision, commitment and creativity to give Iona fans and alumni a memory and not just a victory.
4. Sean has truly arrived as a leader, doing all the little things like diving for loose balls and drawing hard fouls, to set an example and give the team the energy it needs to win.
5. Can we appeal to the NCAA for a fifth year of eligibility for Poole? One thing I will say is that the Curtis Dennis experiment really soured me on the one year transfer projects however Poole has proven that it can work after all.
6. Only negatives in my mind were bowman - who we got nothing from, and English - who despite hitting some huge shots late, made some bad decisions and could have really cost us in some crucial spots.
7. DL3 best performance as a Gael so far in his career. Forget about the points and FT efficiency, I was most impressed with his tenacity on the boards and his will to win.
8. Didn't think Massiello coached a bad game as much as it was simply that we are the more talented team.
9. Team showed a ton of maturity to withstand the early second half run by the Jaspers and come back to blow the game open. Last two years' team would have lost this game after sustaining that blow.
10. Gomez was an unsung hero, playing meaningful minutes and bringing calm to the game when we most needed it.
Need to avoid letdown game against monnmouth now. Go Gaels!!!

Lots of good analysis in these posts. We are a better team than they are! Too many weapons--all learning the intensity needed to win a league game.
7-8 from the line in the last 2 minutes.

The light switch got turned on!! What can anyone say that witnessed last night's game other then this team is improving on a rapid pace. I'm sure no one could have expected the team we saw earlier in the season could have evolved from a one dimensional (3 point shooting),soft, selfish, lazy team to a gritty, hard working, DEFENSIVE team that shares to ball and is not solely reliant on the 3. They are actually fun to watch Iona played like a dangerous team that could win a game or 2 in the NCAA tournament (of course if they win the MAAC tournament)
Some observations: DL who i have blasted the whole year has gotten his confidence back and played with so much heart and desire and as stated 100 times already was the difference. William's long lanky wingspan at 6'7" makes it difficult for opponents to get easy looks from beyond the key. Poole is a gamer and getting a winner for 1 year was well worth it. English is extremely talented but his decision making down the stretch cost us the Canisius game and might hurt us in the tourney Sean Armand has arrived not only is he working hard on defense he's taking the ball strong to the hoop he'll play professionally somewhere. Tavan's lack of consistency shooting the ball and inability to finish at the basket is the reason he's on bench, TC should try to get him a few minutes to keep fresh and when in full court pressure situations

No matter what happens the rest of the season, just a great night. The guys played wonderfully. They should be proud of themselves. Richie Guerin seems like a humble and real like able guy. Proud he is an alum. Nice job by everybody involved. ESPN coverage was great too. Man Sean takes a lot of shots during the course of a day. 400 before class in the morning. He's really made himself into a versatile player. Can't say enough about his work ethic.
Let's have some fun down the stretch boys!!! Let's go!! Where's Tau? We need him.

Iona finally has good leadership again. The difference between Nyre and Liquori is like night and day. Nyre has vision, ambition, is willing to listen and pays attention to making sure that things are done well. Liquori was a "my way or the highway" guy who nearly ran Iona into the ground, never listened and dropped the ball repeatedly. We are fortunate to have Nyre leading the school and Cluess coaching the team. I was not able to attend the game due to travel. How well attended was the pre-game fund raising dinner?

IONA05, thanks for your take. I have to disagree with your #8, and if I were a Jasper fan I'd be very unhappy, this morning. Why do you think he kept Brown out so long?
In a perfect world, at halftime, after the unveiling of the retired number, Richie posed for pictures with his fellow Marines. In my perfect world, OT would have been in the picture.
I wasn't at the pre-game reception, but I understand that some of Richie's former teammates were in attendance, including John McIvor. A great touch. Also heard that Richie got choked up at the reception. As many others have said, RG is a great ambassador for Iona. And not just for BB.

Good Points, just wanted to add: AJ had 2 turnovers and some are talking like he almost gave the game away. He played 39 minutes and his 2 threes when it was 50-50 were huge. Worst shot of the night- Sean Armand. We were up 7 with 1:35 left in the game and Sean took a deep 3 with 30 seconds left on the 35 second clock. Not a good move at all. Poole was unreal. Where did that offense come from? No subs at all in second half. Coach went with who was hot and stayed with them. It just wasn't Tre's night. It happens. Again, I think the key has been that at least 3 or 4 guys are playing really well every game now.

Emergence of Poole and IW have been huge for our recent surge which started with the 2nd half comeback vs Canisius despite the loss. IW was everywhere last night. Mass os a good coach but last nite he was out coached by TC because he over coached.

Not much to add, just a great night. I have no problem with being 7 or 8 players deep, if they have the talent that's all you need. These guys are in their late teens early 20's! '59 I agree with you the less I see of Brown on the court the better. Pankey didn't impress at all.

Williams at top of zone was genius.
The lollipop passes back and forth need to stop. Poole and AJ need to make crisp passes. Other than that, great job

Resumeman asked in earlier post about the status of Hines on crutches before the game? Any info.
