Rebounding stats are absolutely atrocious.... BUT, getting a conference game road win in a place that isn't always kind to us is all that matters. Great hustle by Sledge to get the loose ball and find AJ. Tremendous effort again by DL. Gaels could have folded when the Purple Eagles lead rose to 12. Instead they knuckled down and found a way to win. Once again Sunday is a game for first place. Would love to steal that one too. Maybe Baron will have an off night? Just sayin...... ;-)

OMG We spent the first 16 minutes of the 2nd half in a fog and didn't come out of it until the 4 minute mark. Coach Casey may be our MVP. Great win in western NY.

Great win.... nice to know they are capable of "turning it on". Just need 40min of effort. I think this sets us up nicely for Sunday's game.
Well deserved Fireball

One of the few big game winning shots in Iona history. AJ has balls! Good teams find a way to steal a win. Everything else about the game was awful but still get a W. A win on Sunday and Iona would very likely end up the one seed.

Never in doubt. *grabs bottle of Fireball* Enjoy it--you need it tonight! I don't know what was better tonight, the win or the chat room, I still don't believe they won that game! I know I doubted them the whole 2nd half.

Missed the whole thing at my son's soccer practice. What happened? Iona dominated the first 15 minutes, got in foul trouble and than proceeded to play like Ruland's last year Gaels, down by 12 with 3 left being out rebounded by over 20, A few baskets and a few misses by Niagara and next thing you know Mason is on the line shooting 2 up 2 and misses both due to injured knee. Iona chance to tie or win, wild scramble averts disastrous Laury turnover, English wide open for 3 with 7 seconds left and drains it. Niagara misses shot and tough follow and Iona wins a 1 pointer. A very untypical Gael win.

Bill here's the complete game recap: scores.espn.go.com/ncb/playbyplay?gameId=400502616In short, we were down 12 points with 4 minutes to go. We were getting killed on the boards (48-30), and especially on the offensive boards (20-3). Poole was in foul trouble throughout and was a non-factor. Bowman played but only had 3 points. Iona played sloppy defense, lots of fouls were being called and our major contributor was Laury who scored 28 points (including 10 of 12 from the free throw line!) and had 9 boards. Iona clawed their way back and was down 89-87 with 21 seconds to go and Antoine Mason at the free throw line. He missed the freebie and on our last possession, Laury fell down but Sledge managed to get the ball on the floor and passed it to English who drained a three to give Iona a 90-89 lead with eight seconds left. Niagara got two shots off in those eight seconds but neither went in - an ugly but satisfying win.
