This posting is from Br. Robert Durning's Facebook page and was posted about 14 hours ago (I am writing as of 9am):
My very close friend and confidante, Brother John Gerard Driscoll, C.F.C.,passed this evening into the boundless love of God. I wish you all could have known this extraordinarily good human being. Requiescat in pace.

I had the privilege of attending Brother Driscoll's Wake last evening in Spellman Hall. It was a great outpouring of love for this great man (it was great to see Dave Brown, Glen Vickers, Linda Bruno, Jim Hynes, etc. from the "old days" as well as many other great Iona people). First of all, walking into Spellman Hall, it sounded louder than any Goal Club Reception (Brother would have really loved that interaction and sharing). Particularly moving was the impressive presence of the Iona College Bagpipers standing as the official Honor Guard in front of Brother's casket (including periodic changing of the Guard) for the entire 7 hours of the viewing. What a beautiful Iona tradition. Truly, genuine IONA. In reflecting over Brother's tenure, if it were not for his stewardship and personal support as Iona's President (and his insight to hire Jim Valvano and Pat Kennedy who followed), the Iona Basketball Program would be a shadow of what it is today and what it has been to Iona and to us over the past 30-plus years. Brother Driscoll was the biggest cheerleader for Iona Athletics and Iona Basketball who ever lived and he will be missed. Brother Driscoll fought the good fight for over 50 years as a Christian Brother. May he now rest in the presence of the Risen Christ forever. Attachments:
