People on this message board are in the college's administration? I don't think so. You missed the point. If there is a deeper problem beyond a scuffle between roommates I'm confident that it won't be swept under the rug. If the arrest is just the result of a roommate argument that got physical it is not a major issue. Whether " people in the know" on a basketball fan message board posted anything about this is irrelevant. Strictly speaking, you and I are fans only and don't speak for the program or school.

Would like to know the story here. I spend a lot of time rooting for these guys. All I ask is that they represent the college well. Getting arrested for assault is not representing the college well. What happened? Does anyone know?

I'm concerned as well, but my primary issue is that the college administration and the program itself handle things properly. Based on my knowledge of the administration and their thorough cleanup of the mess Liquori left, I'm confident they will handle this the right way. Remember, one possibility is that this incident is exactly what it is said to be, a fight between roommates where one made a criminal complaint, which in this day and age is going to result in an arrest.
But the notion that there was a coverup because fans didn't post information about this on the message board is idiotic. Message boards are for fan entertainment, nothing more. What is said here is not said on behalf of the school or program.
I visited the MAAC and Siena boards, and the predictable idiots are fellating themselves over this. Google "arrests of siena basketball players" and then do the same for Iona, and you will see why they are so excited. This is a rare event for Iona's program, and has not been for Siena in recent years. That, combined with stories of a current Siena team member beating a student without being suspended, gives you part of the background for their obsession. Best to ignore the morons and let the process play out with Laury. I hope it is nothing more than a roommate fight, but if it is more I expect the program and school to do what is required to do the right thing.
I was told by a fan at the Rider game that DL was suspended a game for fighting. Did not know about an arrest and didn't even know if it was true. So there was no reason to post it. And it was fun reading the posts that brought up academics as the reason. You hate to see him arrested, since I remember multiple fights that Jeff was reportedly involved (don't know if they were true, either) in, including one where he knocked out ichoops. (SF)

An old story it happened many times before along the North Ave. corridor..
After wild melee in the area involving some players, Valvano arrived at the scene as he often would...His assistance as always was appreciated...With it we managed to defuse the situation....
Afterward a Rookie came up me and said ''Lieutenant...Boy that guy is good, he can talk the balls off of a Brass monkey''.......Best description of Valvano I have ever heard...
His farewell speech given and repeated to millions will be remember for years in the sports world for its mixture of laughs and tears...

The Siena fan dopes on the MAAC board are irrelevant to this. Soup just enjoys hating and stirring the pot. I really don't care what they have to say or think about the matter. Its very important to me as an alum that this is handled the right way and that any punishment fit the crime and this is dealt with in the open. I expect the administration to act with integrity and any donations I intend to make will hinge upon that.

I feel the same way Bill.
But given the fact that we are apparently dealing with two students, there are very significant limitations on what Iona can say publicly about this. Those limitations are imposed by the privacy laws relating to students.

59.....About 4 years ago before I had my stroke, I used to arrive early for the games....Ichoops who lived in Conn. at the time would come over for game talk.....He was hard to figure out...His talk was always filled with innuendos...It took me a while, but after I got to recognize for what it was, I found him to be a pretty nice guy....In fact, I kind of miss those B.S. sessions...He has a sardonic nature which means little harm......

but alot of u do represent yourselves as knowing everything from the inside, this story wa published wednesday and wasn't addressed ont he board or by the school until saturday why? if this happened at siena or manhattan we would have 10 pages already, so it just shows everyone defends there schools, so its funny when people complain when other alumni defend their school we already had it as cluess will handle because he is the best and it was academics and bad things don't happen at iona, what a funny spin

I for one don't have inside information about the Iona program and never said I did. Nor do I read whatever local paper or blog that published the story. And I have never posted on the Iona board about all the arrests at Siena when they were taking place not so long ago. This has happened at Siena and I don't recall very much discussion about it on the Iona board. We are not obsessed about Siena like many of their fans are about Iona, and that's the way it should be.
Don't confuse what people post on a fan board with anything important or relevant. We don't speak for the school and what Iona can say publicly about an altercation between 2 students is very limited by law and regulations.

I knew nothing about this until the article was posted. Not sure how you would cover up an incident that involved an arrest. At least on the surface it sound like just a fight, happens all the time at college and athletes are not immune. Hopefully we get the full truth and it's nothing more than that. As far as Jeff is concerned, I don't know about multiple, but I do know about 1.
