I have not seen cluess get the credit he deserves in this area. There is a reason every team he has is a great 3 point shooting team, not only does he find good shooters and players perfect for his system but he makes his players become much better shooters once he has them under his tutelage. It's a combination of his system, his teaching and his emphasis on repetition.
He has turned previous poor shooters like rashad Dwight, Scott machado and now David Laury into decent shooters and he turns good shooters into great shooters.
Any kid out there with potential who wants to become a great shooter is making a wise choice if they decide to come play for cluess.
I really don't think he has gotten the credit he deserves in this area. He is why year in and year out iona is such a good 3 point shooting team, we are lucky to have him.

Joebird, totally agree with you. However, another way of looking at the Iona style of play is the disappearance of the pull up jumper. For instance in the game against Canisius, our 79 points were broken down as follows: 1. Points in the paint-34 2. Three points-30 3. Free throws-15 4. Total-79 (zero mid-range points) We did have two mid-range shots, last night and one, tow games ago. I only looked at the past three games, but have a feeling that most of our games are like that/scoring breakdown. And I guess this is the overall trend in college BB. I do feel that TC is definitely ahead of the curve.

Expect to see other programs try to replicate system, but you need shooters not shot takers. Shooters, ball movement and spacing to get open looks are key. System also helped by players who can attack the rim to get defense to help and leave open shooters. I love the way the players have bought in and the fun they have. I am praying we have Coach Cluess for a few more years and enjoying the ride while it lasts.

I hope we find some time to work with Ryden on the drop step and a spin move. His game is really coming on. With the above added to his game, it could be Mike who, David Who, Jeff?? Just kidding! I watched some of Ryden's high school video. He did not like to go inside and D was ?? He has changed his game, and his on-court demeanor.

SLG, Ryden's problem, imo, is a slow trigger on his 3PT shot. Thus he has to be wide open on his three point attempts. And when he is, he's pretty deadly. However, defenses close on him quickly and he has to pass on the shot and instead pass the ball, because he doesn't get his shot off quickly enough. And on another subject, I was talking to the coaches about Kelvin's free throw shooting. In practice, he shoots with an arc, but come game time he reverts to his line drive style, and they are trying to correct it. Still a work in progress.

Gaels now lead the nation in 3 point field goal %. Second in made 3's and third in 3's per game. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/statistics/team/_/stat/3-pointsMy original point was his teams don't just take 3's, they make 3's and he maximizes the 3 ball shooting talent of all his players as well, if not better, than any other coach in the country.
