My Stratford Redskins Jr Mitey Mites are playing in a 12-team tournament this weekend (games are half-games, actually) that will prevent me from getting to either Meet the Gaels event and may keep me from the luau as well. I've attached the bracket for those who enjoy such stuff (I will say that I WISH they had stuff like this when I played Pop Warner!). Can someone email/text/tweet me with any "news" that comes up during the day--any new injuries, who's on campus for a visit, etc--in the event I don't make it down there at all? Enjoy the tourney, three years ago my daughters Pop Warner cheer squad made it to the Nationals at Walt Disney World. What a trip, they ended up in third; but it seems like yesterday she was cheering at one of those Mighty mite tourneys and this year is her last Pop Warner year. As a kid my version of travel ball was going from parish to parish playing CYO.

Guy,
The Pop Warner program you played for hosts an annual Friendship Bowl at seasons end - this year we will have a 6 game schedule on Saturday, November 20. Twelve different Mitey Mite teams will play from 9:00 AM thru 7:00 PM. Last two games under the lights at Haindl Field.
You should look into...

Thanks for that info! I didn't know they hosted anything like that.
Unfortunately, there's a lot of time between now and Nov 20, and our season will be done by then. We have that tournament tomorrow, and we may have something going for next week (Bridgeport was going to host a tournament but has now scrapped it), and that would be it.
I do marvel at the whole playoff structure now in place, from Jr Pee Wees on up. MAN that would have been fun as a player. But as a coach, I like the "simplicity" of the mitey mites--(officially) no score, no wins/losses, etc, but I know we had a 4-3-1 season with mostly 7s and 8s playing against mostly 8s and 9s, so the kids are prepared for the next level. (Side note: both Stratford Jr Pee Wee and Pee Wee are unbeaten and stand good chances of reaching national championship round.)
