I started following the baseball Cardinals in 1945 and they were in the 1946 WS, defeating the Red Sox. They had two catchers, Del Rice a VG defensive catcher and Joe Garagiola, who was considered the better hitter. As a St. Louis native, he was a fan favorite, but the Cardinals would have been a much better team if only they had signed Joe's friend and neighbor, from The Hill. May Joe RIP.
