I choose to post on the ''Off Topic'' board so as not to distract from Iona basketball... I could give hundreds of examples of why I think the way I do and why my world differs from today's generation.....I would hope the following story would help bridge the misunderstandings... Many years ago as a youth of 17 in Marine boot camp this was a regularity but is impossible today to believe.... At mail call the assistant Drill Instructor would stand with the list of all 64 names in the platoon...Every time you name was called because you had received a letter he would put a mark next to your name...Once you received the 4th mark you were on the punishment list......... As punishment you would have to run the gauntlet...Naked you would have to run in the sand through two rows of 32 men each armed with a leather belt...The men were ordered to hit you with belt as hard as you could...Anyone slacking off on a strike then would also have to remove his fatiques and also run the gauntlet...Finishing the run would find one a welted bloody mess and left to your buddies to attend.....Needless to say I begged my family to control and restrict my mail... In today's world the Drill instructors would be charged with Felonious Assault.....In that world they made men for which I will be forever thankful...  |

Naked men getting whipped by leather belts? They still do that, but its in some shady clubs down in the village.

I was under the impression that a academic and a Athletic scholarship were two different awards given for different abilities...Apparently not...I wonder if a student given a Academic scholarship and was discovered could not add 2 plus 2 would be kept in that same class because to do other wise might 'Hurt his feelings'.....Political correctness gone haywire... 59........I have concluded that you live in a enclosed world of Iona Basketball, and anything that might in the least disturb has no place in it...Your constant search for answers that have yet to be determined leads one to that deduction...Remember your attempt to restrict only basketball talk on the general discussion board?...I am sure you will give this post a.......''-10''.........  StLouis....In reading your last post I also came to the conclusion that you added the last paragraph after re-reading the lst part to soften its ridiculous nature...... To all...........I have no idea where this + and - use started but IMO shows no more expression then the ''Old Fashion'' A B C D and F....or are they no longer in use as they have become to offending...and we would not want that. |

OT, sorry, but I found Hat's comment funny. I will say that if Iona played with your energy and desire, we would have made it to the Sweet Sixteen on multiple occasions. And as for your opinion that I spend too much time on Iona BB, my wife would probably differ and ask that you change Iona BB to Sports. Remember, the Football Draft is less than three weeks away, and the MLB season has started. But I do understand your constant memories of your younger days. Reminds me of Gen. MacArthur's dying memories of, "The Corp, the corp and the corp".

OT and ic59 are 2 legends and GREAT fans of Iona. Anyone who appreciates Iona college and particularly Iona hoops are glad we have these two guys in our corner!

But if you're in a fight, dial OT. 59........Thought my fighting days were gone being in a wheelchair and in a assisted living home.........In my early days here while waiting for the elevator I was bumped in the rear by another resident a big fellow who had a habit of speeding around in his chair and intimidating the residents...I turned and told him 'don't try that crap with me'...He then bumped me again and tried to squeeze past me....I reached over, grabbed him by the collar and was about to throw a punch, when about 4 people from the near by nurses station alerted by the commotion rushed over and stopped me..... He has not bothered me since and slowed down his bullying of the other residents.....So you never know.......  As to basketball.......Have acquire a good ability to 'Read through the lines'. Recent phone calls and visitors have led me to believe (only through innuendo) that good news is expected soon....I have been speculating also.... |
