The Board of Trustees of Iona College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jon Strauss as acting president during President Nyre’s sabbatical.
Dr. Strauss has a remarkable record of distinction, having served as president of three colleges. Most recently he was president of Manhattanville College, so he is very familiar with our region. He was also president of Harvey Mudd College (one of the highest ranked college’s in America) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, each for nine years. In addition, he has served as president of Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI), an early developer of the MBA in Sustainable Business and has held senior positions at such outstanding institutions as the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Southern California, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, among others. He held faculty positions in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and Washington University (St. Louis). His full resume is attached. Dr. Strauss’s wife, Jean, is a documentary filmmaker supporting the movement to open adult adoptee birth records (see http://www.jeanstrauss.com). They have two sons, Kristoffer a third-year medical student at Hofstra, and Jonathon, a freelance cinematographer and film editor.
Dr. Strauss was recommended to the Iona board by President Nyre, who worked with him when he was president of Manhattanville College.
The board is delighted that Dr. Jon Strauss is willing to come out of retirement yet again to continue to move Iona forward. His appointment begins June 1 and will conclude December 31.
