Too bad they can't fit a Basketball arena inside. They might be able to fit in a couple of those free throw shooting games

Are there any boarders out there that remember either a White Castle or White Tower in that immediate area?
I have memories or going there frequently after viewing a NRHS football game which always drew large crowds of several thousands...As the team came out of the rear steps of the High School before the game, and the band played ''Here's to good old New Rochelle, to our purple team''
Old friend visited and gave me a tape showing scenes of New Rochelle going back as 1925....It runs 1 hour and 30 minutes and is narrated by old time fire Chief Walter Bell....I watched spellbound at the many parades down Main St. with enormous crowds and our flag flying flying and saluted from every street pole...
My friend told me the tape is available at New Rochelle Library...Well worth viewing for all, especially the area oldtimers and the younger generation to get a look at ''The Greatest Generation'' and why it was known a such...!!!!!/!

I remember the White Tower at the corner of North and Mayflower. It later turned into the "Wigwam" which was a McDonalds knock off, then Cannones Pizza for many years. I believe the property is currently vacant and now owned by Iona. Not sure what they plan to do with it, but I imagine the city will require them to keep it on the tax roll.

This that I was referring to was probably a White Castle...It was to the best of my memory just north of the Old College diner...It might be a memory going back to the late 1930's and pre-war 1940's... Speaking of the White Tower...I was taken a coffee break in the one located at Main and Stephenson when the Auto Dealer across the street suddenly blew up.. I remember vividly calling for the Fire Dept. and many Ambulances. My brother who a firefighter at the time was first to arrive at the scene, and I assisted him searching the wreckage for injured and dead bodies... I was working Traffic Enforcement at the time, and even though it was not my area or sector I was assigned the initial investigation...I remember working several hours at the Hospital later filling out over 40 Aided reports which I believe is still a NRPD record... My brother recently died after a auto accident in Fla. He was the prime example of a firefighter and was known to be the first to enter danger... To the best of my recollection this occurred in very late 50's or very early 60's...

December 29, 1971 to be exact. My brother was a reporter for the Standard Star and I believe authored the page 1 article of the story.

Greg....Thanks for the refresher...As it happened almost 50 years ago my memory of the exact time it happened was hazy...Reading the story, I am now sure it was the same one...Please try to take into consideration I in my 90+o years of life have a awful lot to remember...

Yup, that was it.
I remember watching it after (BSHS) school and having an eerie feeling knowing there were people in that charred rubble.
Dying in a fire has to be one of the worst ways to leave this world.

No problem OT. Only reason I remember it so well is my brothers involvement - I knew it was 70's, but had to look it up myself.

Was at brunch, today, and I came away impressed. Of note: *There is parking (about 20 spaces) right behind the restaurant. *Prices are reasonable, and food was good. Right now they are only open for lunch and dinner, with hours of 11 AM-10 PM. Expect to add breakfast in the near future. *The Wait Staff was attentive and professional. And friendly. *They do serve liquor which comes in handy, after a game, like today's. *Looking at the restaurant, from Iona's main gate, the bar is to the left, then comes the dining area, with the bakery, deli and take out at the end (towards McDonald's).
Bottom line. My wife says we'll be back.
