I know that softball doesn't get much attention on this board, but I think that Coach Inouye is a very good coach. So when I read in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, this morning, that Southern Illinois (or was it St. Louis University) just hired the Hofstra SB coach to head up their program, I crossed my fingers hoping that the new Hofstra AD doesn't come after our SB coach.

She's a favorite of his! Hard worker who supports all sports--especially hoops.

SLG, being a Cardinals fan, I read the Post Dispatch, Sports Section, almost every day.

When I hear stuff like this it always reminds me that there was a time not so long ago when a move to Hofstra wasn't considered an upward move.

Cjb, I have to disagree. Even before Hofstra built an arena, they had a VG football team, which garnered a lot of pub for the school. However, if you're going back to the days of Jim Valvano, then I would agree. And while I don't have their enrollment numbers, I'm assuming they have a larger enrollment.

Well, we have lost another coach, as Mellisa is stepping down as head softball coach, and has accepted a position (??) at Fordham. A big loss, and I wish her well. Tough shoes to fill. Matt is keeping busy, filling staff openings.

So,unlike basketball, for softball this is a step up. Fordham has a very good softball program. They win the A-10 Championship pretty much every year and have won a few NCAA tournament games, even coming close to advancing out of the regional a few years back. Couldn't pass up that opportunity.

The position opened up after Bridget Orchard left Fordham for Villanova after 17 years at Rose Hill. Orchard played at Nova and she had a great run at Fordham... 6 A10 championships, 7 NCAA appearance and 7 A10 Coach of the Year Awards. Melissa was an assistant under Coach Orchard so Fordham knows what they are getting with her. Good luck to her.
