Iona's Leonard Korir finished fourth in the NCAA's X-Country race this afternoon at Terre Haute, Indiana. A fantastic accomplishment for Leonard in a race won by Sam Chelanga and Oklahoma State (team). Still waiting for the rest of the team results. In the 10K race, Iona was in 14th place at the 2K mark, and while I'm pretty sure we didn't finish in the top five, we have a shot at the top ten. Results should be available soon.

For you track and field guys and all others......Watched a video on this morning news of a teenage girl...All she needed to do was finish the cross country race in order for her team to win the State Title...About 75 yards from the finish, she hit what was described in track as "Hitting the wall" She stumbled excruciating forward in a semi concious state, but collapsed about 10 yards from the line...Her coach went to her recsue, but as he talked to her she started to crawl forward inch by inch..It was painful to watch but she somehow made it as medics rushed to her aid.
It was a wonderful profile in courage. It certainly inspired this oldtimer.......Positive it is on U Tube or elsewhere...do youself a favor and watch it.......and if possible link it.
Now off to the game...
Go Gaels!!!!!!!
