Don't look now but OT's favorite Iona team, the baseball team is 0-7. OT, don't panic, just Panik. Have faith in our young coach, Paul Panik. It might take a season or two, but I think he'll have a successful team. That said, we'll never do well early, since we'll be playing teams, many of whom have been on the field since early January. Just a feeling but I think he'll do well, eventually.

One only need to look at the short stints of the assistant coaches in the past 6 years to understand the depth of the problem. Most, including Panik, leave after one year. (He has since returned as head coach.) Student-athletes get little consistency in training, pitching, hitting, etc. School needs to come to grip with how little they pay coaches and possibly pursue alternatives such as 2 year tuition-free graduate assistants. The tuition for these GAs should not be a charge to the respective program's budget. A few of the recent players have mentioned the impact of the transience of the coaching staff--particularly on pitchers.
