Even as a Met fan, one had to feel bad for the ridicule he and his family endured. Glad the Red Sox made amends with him and he was able to move on. RIP Billy Buckner, at least that play was spared the fate of this moniker... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkle%27s_Boner

People forget the game was already tied as the result of Fred Crawford's wild pitch scoring Kevin Mitchell. Buckner was a good player and should never have that play define his career. RIP Billy B.

Buckner one guy with a fate he doesn't deserve. Very good player for many years, shouldn't have even been on the field in that last inning, as his legs were all banged up. McNamara wanted to reward him by allowing him to be on the field when the Sox clinched the Series. Guy was always a gamer, and yes the Sox made amends in the end but Boston fans brutally attacked the guy for years, until they finally got their WS and had enough self esteem in the tank to be forgiving. Shameful.
