Iona had a good run this weekend at the college 7's championships. This weekend at the Penn Mutual Men's CRC's the defeated powerhouse Kutztown 14-12, Defeated BC 40-0 and then thumped Wisconsin 24-0. Iona then advanced to the quarter-finals against eventual CRC champion Lindenwood where the boys lost 19-7. So, in the end, we finished amongst the final 8 teams in college rugby 7's play.
To put this into perspective, our entire team is made up of kids from the U.S. while Lindenwood was made up of 6 American's, 1 Canadian, 1 Australian, 1 Welshman, 4 South Africans, and one Englishman. Lindenwood takes this sport very seriously and has 73 players on their club roster, and 20 of those players coming from countries that are traditional powerhouses in World Rugby.
A great showing for Iona.
