Congratulations SLG and thank you mostly because it was Boston you beat! - Also it will make it easy for the engraver next year when all they will have to do is scratch off the S and add "Jackets". !

Yeah, it was quite a season. Last place and going nowhere on January 3rd. New Coach, New Goalie, and voila! What a coaching job! AS an example, in the Final series, he made several adjustments against Boston, and the players bought in each time. The two player suspensions did not phase him, or the hand pass in the Sharks series. Throughout the series, the Blues won when they were on the forecheck with a heavy presence I think they surprised Boston last night by clogging neutral ice, especially with the lead.
Last night's game was in Boston, but they sold out the Enterprise Center (18,500) in 20 minutes for a Watch Party. BallPark Village was sold out for about another 5,000+; Union Station entertainment center was sold out. Finally, two days ago they decided to open Busch Stadium for yet another watch party. 25,000+ people sat in the rain to watch there. But, you know, as shithead (at least in this town) Roger Goodell said "St. Louis is a baseball town.
And it was sweet that it was against Boston - 2001 Super Bowl and Spygate. 2004 and 2013 World Series. LGB!

My daughter, an avid Blues fan - even more so than me, tells me she is working a Blues alumni party tonight (Brett Hull, Bernie Federko, Bob Plager, Tony Twist, Keith Ktchuck (? ,an ex Boston Bruin) and so on). This town is second US city to Philly with the most ex NHL players in residence. She is on cloud 9 - gets to meet her heroes, make a bundle of cash, and celebrate the Cup. Me? Just another working stiff today.

Saw the reaction at the Enterprise Center as time expired. Very happy for the fans. I remember when they got the franchise in the 60's.
SLG, I'm not a big hockey fan, but the Blues are my team (because of the Cardinals) so I was happy that they won. I thought that the "only" Watch Party was at Busch stadium, which the MLB channel showed the fans sitting in the rain.. Had no idea about the other Watch parties, and they are truly amazing. Hockey fans are probably the craziest in all of sports, which many of my friends proved when the Rangers won the Cup a while back. Congrats.

They didn't decide to schedule the Busch Stadium watch party until Monday - little more than 48 hours before the game, and they got more than 25,000 people down there. You may have seen the team party after the game in Boston last night, then partied on a rowdy 2 1/2 hour flight to St. Louis, and they went right to another party with the fans at Enterprise Center.

Yup, that was the 6 team expansion which doubled the NHL.
They put all the expansion teams into the same (West) division - St Louis Blues, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota North Stars, LA Kings, California Seals.
This set-up guaranteed one of the expansion teams would be playing for the Stanley Cup.
Early on, the Blues were the best of the bunch, pretty much the tallest midget because they really couldn't compete with the original 6.
Congrats to the Blues, when I hear their name the first thing that comes to mind is Jacques Plante, Red (The Red Baron) Berenson and the Plager Brothers (Billy, Bob and Barclay).

Brett Hull?
Nope. He came later. When I hear Hull, I think Bobby (his father).
Not a big hockey fam currently, but was a fan going way back of the broad Street bullies. I remember them playing a exhibition game against Russia, and the Russians stooping the game because the Flyers were too tough for them.
Last night was the first hockey game I watched all season. What a intense and exciting game, at least while the score stayed 2-0. Stanley Cup playoffs might be the most exciting postseason of all the major sports. Congrats to the Blues fans

Brett Hull?
Interestingly enough, outside of Bill Plager, all of those players were former Rangers. Barclay never played for the Rangers as he has dealt with Berenson to the Blues.
