With the World Series drawing to a close, I'm wondering if you ever attended a WS game, when you were a kid? I believe you're a Giant fan, and back in the thirties they were pretty good. Even played the Washington Senators in 1934, I believe. If you did, could you describe the experience, and if you didn't, how did you follow the games before tv?

OT, thanks. Great stuff. Two names that you didn't mention, and they might have been gone from the Giants by that time was the great Christy Matheson (Sp?) and Freddie Lindstrom. Did you ever see Christy M. pitch? And how did you travel to the game, by car, or by public transportation?

Five feet away is a picture of Johnny Mize. We exchanged three letters before he finally got in the Hall of Fame. The 1947 Giants set a team record for home runs. Legit, no rabbit balls, and Mize hit 51. There must be a little bit of kid left in me. Bronx in the blood with a New Rochelle veneer.

It was tough being a Giants fan while living in the Bronx, surrounded by the effete Yankee fans! Box score from my first ever baseball game with my Dad in 1954--Polo Grounds: www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NY1/NY1195408170.shtmlLots of famous names. Willie Mays went 4-4 with a stolen base and great catch. Johnny Antonelli dominated the Phillies and outpitched Curt Simmons. I still have a baseball from batting practice that Willie signed for me.

Some history for OT. I was listening to my car radio, this morning, and I heard the end of a Cavalcade of America segment about NY Giant Mgr., John McGraw. I learned a couple of things that you might find of interest:
1. Christy Mathewson was before your time. His career started in 1901. He joined the Army during WW I. And was accidentally gassed, which would eventually kill him in 1925, in the TB Center in Saranac Lake, NY. His death greatly affected his manager, John McGraw, who, not long after stepped down as the Giants Mgr.
2. John McGraw died at age 60 while he was a patient at NEW ROCHELLE HOSPITAL.
And now you know the rest of the story!
