I would like to have Grasso stay.
But, if he were to get the Hofstra job and he brought in his own staff, would Steve DeMao make sense for Iona?

Anyone on this board knows my opinion of Fatso Francesa. However, according to the Hofstra message board, Fatso stated that Hofstra will not seek a replacement this year and will play under an interim HC. While that would surprise me, if he is right, this might be an opportunity for Steve DeMeo. The only reason I could see Fatso's thoughts as possible would be if assistant coaches have already signed contracts. Hofstra does seem to be de-emphasizing athletics. If the school is already on the hook for assistant coaches salaries, they may not be willing to look for permanent HC as any incoming coach would want to pick his own staff. Would Hofstra be willing to pay salaries to 2 staffs of assistant coaches? In addition, Goodman is saying that Tim's resignation was a "forced resignation" - if so, I would guess that there will be some form of monetary buy out. $$$$ could be a deciding factor.

What a shame! Tim is one of the really good guys in college basketball. He shouldn't be penalized so severely for one major lapse in judgement. Hope that Tim, like Kevin Willard, will be given a second chance elsewhere.
I too hope that Jared remains a Gael. But if he gets the HC at Hofstra, it's too good a job to turn down.

My heart goes out to Tim Welsh and his family....He is a good guy who made a stupid mistake.......However blowing a 0.18 takes more then 2 or three wines...
Surprisingly the breathalyzer test determines how much alcohol you have in your system, but does not determine how drunk you are....That is a law assumption...I have seen women who's reading were well below the legal limit, but were barely able to stand up...I have seen hard drinking men whose reading were in the high 0.30's who walked a straight line and gave little indication of intoxication outside of their breath...They by all indications with those type readings should have been dead..
Years ago DWI was taken much less seriously. It was take away the keys, and call a taxi....No more....as it should be.....I have seen the devastation it could bring to famlies more then I would like to remember....
Go Gaels!!!!!!

If Grasso were to go to Hofstra, would anyone like TW as an assistant?

Unfortunately Welsh really painted himself into a corner here. I don't believe he would have kept the job, so this was probably the wise choice. I hope he can bounce back from this, as it appears to be a costly mistake. I don't think Grasso will end up there, but it has been a real crazy couple of months; I guess you can never say never.

the reason Sean Armand signed is because of his relationship with Grasso. Let's not ship Jared out so soon!

Hofstra will have better choices than Grasso for its head coaching spot. Reports out there are saying that the Rutgers job is between Fraschilla and Mike Rice. I have to think the "loser" in that battle is going to be the prime candidate at Hofstra.

Fran F doesn't really want to work right now. He just likes the attention, as always. Mike Rice is the most likely the man.

Three points: 1. Norm Roberts seems like a natural for the Hofstra job. 2. With Mike Rice now the RU HC, Fred Q., another Fordham guy, might be a natural to join him. 3. A darkhorse for the Iona job, might be Tim O'Toole (should Grasso leave). He interviewed for the Columbia job.

Another rumor is Ed Cooley as a possibility to replace Welsh.
