Again would not have been on the team after 5 games last year if TC was coach Disagree. He had some nice games toward the end of last years season. Don’t believe Arnold did a good job utilizing him this season. I felt he would of improved had TC been at the helm this season, building momentum for the 20/21 season. I really liked Risto. The truth is assuming DVE is healthy I would give him most of the playing time Risto would get. They both shoot the 3 and DVE is a more athletic by a wide margin. Will miss Risto and will remember his performance in the NCAA game.

A few things: 1. Looking at the roster, we'll only have four seniors. I think it was 86 who expressed concern about having already given out two scholarships for the Class of '21. And yes I know that guys always leave and that this is a transition year. And while I have no idea about what is usual for a typical RP year (guys leaving), but as of now we have two openings and 100 offers. 2. Risto was an easy guy to root for, but just wasn't built for RP BB. Not athletic enough. 3. This might be a recent record for having a roster out this soon. 4. I'm still guessing that Asante Gist will lead the team in scoring, but NO IDEA who will be the second HS. It's good to be a Gael!

I felt he would of improved had TC been at the helm this season, building momentum for the 20/21 season. Definitely a liberal who doesn't use facts Facts: Season totals 29 pts 19 rb mucho momentum Last 10 games 1 game of 3+pts, 13 of his 29 All season 2 games with 2+ rebounds feel that fire brewing And that has nothing to do with attitude and reliability Dude, I don’t think I was clear in my original post. I was referring to the 2018/2019 season. Risto had some very nice games down the stretch and was a solid part of the rotation . I felt he would of built off that momentum, further developing his game had T.C. been around to coach the 2019/2020 season. Unfortunately Risto was stuck with Arnold and I believe was not properly utilized , thus the dismal statistics you provided. As far as the liberal comment goes, you are 1000% dead ass wrong. More like the polar opposite.

Lineup could go in so many directions. Best guess:
Chavez Gist Jeanlouis Van Eyck Shema

Pitino obviously likes size. I can see Ross starting over Gist. Ross shot 50% in MAAC play including 47% from three.

That's a fair and great point. Just based on stats, Gist has clearly had the better A/TO ratio over his career. I agree Ross really didn't show to be a primary ball handler last season. Gist and Ross bring different skills to the table. Gist will provide a better A/TO ratio and a skill to be able to attack the rim. Ross provides size and great 3pt shootingand better shot selection than Gist. Defensively, I give the slight edge to Ross. With this group I think Pitino might lean to better shooting and size with Ross, though Gist will get plenty of PT. Just a gut feeling, but just based on recruiting, I just don't see him starting a small backcourt in Chavez (6'2'') and Gist (5'10'').

Guys on Twitter might want to follow this new account. It's the 2nd or 3rd new account on Twitter recently created by a Iona fan since Pitino was hired. Love to see young guys giving exposure to Iona. Would be good to show him some support.

Thanks for sharing this story, Sharkey. I also expect Van Eyck will be a leader for the many new players.

For Rick Pitino is this year's roster the exception or the rule? We go into June with a full roster (13 on scholarship). Under TC we almost always held back at least one 'ship in anticipation of a December transfer. Does anyone know if RP usually went into a season with a full roster?

I don't see Gist getting a lot of playing time especially at the point because he's really a small 2 and his shot selection consists of ill-advised shots leading to inconsistency with his 3 point shooting. Ross who shoots the ball well and is a bigger body may see more playing time but will not be getting major minutes. I'm confident Petino is going to dance with the people he brought in here and let them develop. Petino knows even with raw inexperienced but talented kids he has recruited have enough talent to compete and win the MAAC. For one of Cluess guys to play they are going to have to be several levels above. Tie goes to the newbies

vallin1, you make a good point about RP wanting to play "his guys", but I think you are underestimating Gist's talent. He was very good in HS, two state championships I believe with two different teams. And he put up good numbers at Eastern (??) Kentucky. He was a starter under Tim Cluess, and after our NCAA loss to UNC, Roy Williams congratulated Asante and told him that "you're a helluva player". Granted, he's an OG and shorter than what RP is used to, but I think he'll surprise. JMO.
