Some Monmouth fans on their facebook fan page talking similarly. "How are we supposed to compete with this?" LOL Let's remember the game is played on the court by players. Did Pitino's teams ever lose a game? 🙄

Did Pitino's teams ever lose a game? 🙄 Yes and logic suggests we're going to get better ones than everyone else in the MAAC, and they'll be coached by someone better than everyone else in the MAAC.

Sounds a little like pre-season '19-20.

Sounds a little like pre-season '19-20. Not from me it didn't. Not once did I ever say we had the best talent this past season. We weren't even close. But if you don't think Pitino will bring in high-impact recruits, you're crazy.

Two things stuck out for me in the fairly comprehensive ESPN interview: -- Pitino is not very interested in JUCO players but is cool with grad transfers. -- He is looking for six recruits. By my count there are only three available scholarships. Are some players not having their scholarships renewed? Sounds that way. Side note: Read an opinion piece by well-respected Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated and he rips Iona two, maybe three, new ones. I'm an Iona fan for life but I will say I'm hoping and praying this move works out. Forde wrote a book with Pitino and might be a little too close to the investigations that he reported on to be objective. Google "Pat Forde bias" and I think you will get a better picture of the man rather than the bio he placed on his SI page. Pat Forde fake news

We had the best coach in the MAAC for nine years and other MAAC teams got to the NCAA three times. It's not far from Cloud Nine to the Ledge.

Good interview on Dan Patrick. Pitino noted that he wanted a challenging schedule, noted a convo with Calipari to play Kentucky at MSG.

We are a long way from next season. No idea on assistant coaches, players returning, new recruits/transfers, OOC schedule and ramifications with NCAA. As I have said in the past P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E . We will know when we know. First box checked- Head Coach. I feel overreaction and unreal expectations for next season. Sit back and enjoy. The one certainty will be that this year will be entertaining with the attention Pitino will draw. Hoping it does not become a distraction. I know I am ready for the ride.

I really like the Pitino hire. He will get better athletes and he is one hell of a coach. But fans have a way of getting too high or too low. How are MAAC teams going to compete? If we do well, other teams will have to gear up to compete. Instead of destroying the MAAC, this could elevate the MAAC. Oh, by the way, I didn't have breakfast this morning. After Guy's comment, I might start my days with lunch from now on.

Gonna state now that I am confident we're going to be a stronger program right away--nothing more, nothing less. We should be excited, but none of us were born yesterday and we realize there are no guarantees. All I know is that the POTENTIAL for this program in the coming years is great. Again, POTENTIAL, not EXPECTATION.

GuyF, most would agree. I just hate the term, because it does tie into heightened expectations. No potential, no expectations. Do not get me wrong, with Pitino there are new possibilities for the program that did not exist before. All good!

I would still love to see a former Iona player join the staff.
