Long, long ago I was in a Survey of English Literature class. It was taught by a man named Walsh, who was easy to spot because he had gray eyes, gray hair, and wore a gray tie and gray suit. He had a reputation as a tough grader and he famously flunked Easy Ed Macauley at St. Louis U. First thing that I noticed about the class was that all the guys i knew were smart as hell. Eventually it became clear that everyone in the class was either on scholarship or a student brother, and there were a lot of English majors in there. When the smoke cleared 3/4 got A's and most of the rest (including QS) got B's. Walsh was a tough marker. What happened? With a softened expression, Walsh told us that we were the bsst class he ever had in 30 years of teaching. I was tickled to get a B in there with Murderers Row.

qs, in comparison to most of us, you would rank as a true member of murders row, but naturally I have a question. In your English Lit class, if you remember, who was the Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig?

Although I remember an occasional face I've forgotten the names except for Dick Close, Summa graduate and very nice guy.

qs, you picked a good one. Dr. Richard Close, Phd. In the 1984 Alumni Directory, Dick was teaching at the Coast Guard Academy, and living in Oakdale, CT. For selecting a Close, you win a Cigar.

Clever fellow! The smartest in the class of 56 were Dick Close and Mike Klein, both out of Cardinal Hayes.
