Have some sad news to pass along. Got a call yesterday from Jimmy Rees, son of Joe Rees '54, informing me that his father had died on Sunday, after a long illness. Joe is in the Iona HOF as the driving force behind the Iona College Goal Club. Joe had moved to Houston, TX in order to be near his son and his family, but still checked in every week to see how the team was doing. On Saturday (the day before he died) he wanted to know who we would be playing in the first round, and said he'd call on Wednesday to get the outcome. Jimmy tells me that Joe's remains will return to NY with the arrangements handled by the Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont, where Joe and his wife, Marie, lived for most of their married life. There won't be a Wake, but Jimmy said that there will be a service at Iona in the Fall.The funeral home will have an obituary out shortly. May Joe RIP.
