Just heard on my car radio (CBS) that today marks the 50th Anniversary of Don McLean's American Pie. A classic that has withstood the test of time. One of a number of songs composed by possibly Iona's most famous alum. Don will be touring this Spring and appearing in CT and NYC along with other venues. Congrats to the composer/performer of this classic.

Just did a little research and the song came out in 1971 but hit #1 on the charts in January, 1972.

A long, long time ago. I can still remember how that music used to make me smile.

"American Pie" is often included in the list of the top rock ballads of all-time. Don and his sister both graduated from Iona. I know that Don was an evening student for a time. Brother Driscoll once told me (in the mid-1990's) that Don still sent him a Christmas card every year.
